The compressor motor sounds like a diesel tractor. It also seems like the freezer switch on more frequently but it still freezes nicely. The noise from the compressor started gradually and is also seems to get louder. Please advise.

Hi, It is time to replace your compressor. Your compressor sucks the energy higher than normal. It has lower efficiency.
So I suggest to replace it soon.

Do upright freezers have a thermal shut off switch if the compressor runs too long or gets to hot?

There is probably a safety device of some description incorporated into the design though it probably isn't to blame for the trouble.

You need to discover whether it is the fan, compressor or both; neither should run constantly. The condenser fan is only needed while the compressor is pushing the refrigerant around the circuit and in many designs, where a belt driven compressor is used it is usual for the fan to be mounted on the extended motor shaft so they can't run independently.

If the compressor runs constantly and the cabinet doesn't suffer from excessive freezing it is almost certain either the compressor is failing or there is a leak and refrigerant is being lost - probably the latter.

Freezer seems to run all the time.

Good Morning Linda, this is Z. I appreciate your post!

I understand your Frigidaire freezer seems to continuously running. Unlike older freezer that turned off and on frequently, newer models save energy from having to start up and shut off repeatedly. For example, diesel-powered trucks conserve fuel and energy and therefore have less engine wear and tear by keeping the motor running; much like newer energy efficient refrigerators/freezer. If the compressor is running on a more constant basis; it is maintaining the temperature within your freezer, rather than having to cut off and start again to adjust the temperature.

I hope this information explains why your freezer runs more often. However, should you feel that a service technician is needed; you may visit the manufacturer website to find a provider in your area that will look at your freezer.

Best regards!

Freezer is making a loud noise, assume when compressor is on. Pretty much as soon as the door is opened, the noise begins. Things are still frozen inside.

inside the compressor body there are springs which sometimes break and allow the
motor to knock against the outer enclosure. There is no fix for this as the system is
sealed, short of replacing the compressor. Not a problem with operation, but quite
distracting.
On another note, if the freezer compartment is beginning to freeze up or the fan
blade was installed too far back on the shaft, this could also cause noise.
(it will only make the sound in the freezer compartment when the fan is running
if this is the case). Hope this helps.

Freezer stopped working.

It might be the compressor making the noise. If it is,the compressor will start/stop frequently. This means that it is tripping on overload due to mechanical damage.Only way to solve this prolem is to replace the compressor (if the freezer is still in a good condition).

Avanti chest freezer cf199 will not freeze. A

Sounds like your freezer has lost its charge of refrigerant. That motor sound is the compressor. And the internal thermal overload is tripping it out every minute because refrigerant also cools the compressor motor. Have a licensed repairman find the leak, seal it,and recharge it with R134a refrigerant.

Buzzing noise -Kyoto KU 9577 Freezer

you may have a bad compressor or a bad compressor relay. The buzzing noise sounds like the compressor trying to start but can't. Unplug the unit and pull the relay off the compressor. If it rattles like gravel in side it replace the relay. If it doesn't then you may need to call a repairman to check the compressor. Hope this helps.
