When I engage the blades on my 54 inch Poulan EX 700, the motor shuts off. I have changed the spark plugs, changed the air filter and the fuel filter and it is still happening. I bought the mower from Badcock's after it had been returned for nonpayment to them (the original owner only had it 2 months) and got no manual with it so I can't troubleshoot or even find out where the parts are in the engine. Some help would be appreciated.

This is a common problem. The driver must be in the seat when the PTO blades are engaged.

Below the seat, attached to the seat there is a switch that confirms the operator is present.

If the switch is defective or seat is obstructed the switch wil not actuate and the mower will shut off.

Hope this helps?

Ensure that you refill it with new fresh fuel not the fuel that was left inside it as fuel does has a limited life.

Try putting a SMALL amount of gas in the carb and see if it will start, if it does, it is a fuel problem, if it does not it is probably an electrical one

My immediate impression is that the float is "stuck open".

Pull the float-bowl, and check that:

a. the bowl and float are clean, and
b. the float moves freely, and
c. when it's in the "up" position, the flow of gas stops (which means that the needle is "seating" properly and doing its job)

Fuel Starvation - Float Bowl Carburetor
1) remove air filter assembly
*be cautious of tearing the mounting gasket. If it does tear, you HAVE to replace it. It is part of the priming system
2) remove the float bowl fastener. This is the main jet
3) carefully remove the float bowl, the rubber o-ring/gasket will not be able to be used if it is removed, you WILL have to replace it
4) using a spray 'carb cleaner'
spray up thru the center of the carburetor
spray and clean the main jet with cleaner and 'tag' wire
(tag wire is very thin, and can be used to clean the hole in the center of the main jet)
5) clean any debris from inside the bowl or carb body
6) re-install bowl and center bolt, air filter assembly

*if you need gaskets, your Briggs dealer can supply. The kit is cheaper than individual gaskets, and all the parts needed to finish the above repair are in the kit.

Kawasaki engine on Husqvarna p-zt 54 loses power when blades engage

There are a few potential reasons why your Kawasaki engine on your Husqvarna P-ZT 54 may be losing power when the blades engage. Here are a few possible causes and solutions:

Low engine speed: If the engine speed is too low, it may not be able to power the blades effectively. Try increasing the engine speed by adjusting the throttle.

Dull blades: Dull blades can put extra strain on the engine, causing it to lose power when the blades engage. Sharpen or replace the blades as necessary.

Belt tension: If the belt that drives the blades is loose or worn, it may slip when the blades engage, causing the engine to lose power. Check the belt tension and replace the belt if necessary.

Dirty air filter: A dirty air filter can restrict the airflow to the engine, causing it to lose power. Check and clean or replace the air filter as necessary.

Fuel issues: If the engine is not getting enough fuel, it may lose power when the blades engage. Check the fuel filter and make sure the fuel tank is clean and free of debris.

If none of these solutions work, it may be best to have a professional mechanic take a look at your mower to diagnose and fix the problem.
