DMR-EH55 HDD ERROR

I CAN'T READ HARD DRIVE

Posted by DOFER on

I have the same problem as well. I was about to watch a recorded program and the unit froze. Now the unit will no longer operate and HD DERR appears. All it does now is flash HD DERR and the disc compartment slides open and close. Besides the on/off button, nothing else functions. Is there anything I can do to make it work again? I would like to retrieve the videos I have saved. I have about 125GB of saved videos. I have heard about the HEX editor, but I'm not really familiar using that program. Is it possible to buy a similar unit and to transfer the drive to a working unit? If so, which one is compatible? Thanks

Likely a drive by question, but the answer is likely related to a dead drive. If unformattable, then replace the HDD with off-the-shelf replacement

Can you be a bit more specific? You cannot read the TV guide, instructions and other data or only the list of programs you ahve recorded?

Does not read on the mac

If the USB hard drive was formatted in NTFS on a PC then the MAC cannot read this hard drive.
If you format this hard drive on a PC in FAT32 file format then the MAC can exchange data between the MAC and the PC.
The MAC can read and write PC data to this hard drive.

I have a 320 gb acclaim portable hard drive. My mac doesn't read it, the first time I plugged it the lap asked me if I wished to format it and I said yes. Now it doesn't read it, what can I

You formatted the hard drive on your laptop in NTFS and the MAC cannot read and write to this formatted NTFS hard drive.
THE FIX
Format the hard drive using your laptop BUT this time format it in FAT32.
The MAC can read and write to a FAT32 formatted hard disk, so now you can exchange data between the MAC and the Windows laptop.

My WD My Passport external Hard Drive ! TB formatted for Mac is not reading my files

A Windows PC computer will not read files on the WD hard drive that has been formatted on a MAC.
The fix.
Copy your photos onto the MAC computer then remove the WD hard drive and connect it to your Windows PC and format the WD hard drive in FAT32 file system.
After formatting has been completed remove the WD hard disk and connect it to the MAC computer. The MAC can read and write to a Windows FAT32 formated hard disk. You can now copy the photos from the MAC to the WD hard disk. When copying is complete, remove the WD hard drive and connect the WD hard drive to your Windows PC and you can now copy the photo from the WD hard disk to your Windows PC.

Can't read hard drive

This is too unspecific. If you want a meaningful answer take time to describe the problem in detail.

On one machine- on all machines?
can't read- what does it mean, does it still appear in the device manager?

How can I get this device to read on an xbox 360?

Step 1: Connect your hard drive to your PC.
Step 2: Create a FAT32 partition on your hard drive. If you’re using less than 32 GB, you can use Windows via “Control panel > Administrative tools > Computer Management”. If you’re using more than 32 GB, you’ll have to use an external program, e.g. Partition Magic.
Step 3: Load all the content you want from your PC onto the external drive. This should consist of files that can be read on the Xbox hard drive.
Step 4: Remove the external hard drive from your PC. Plug it into your Xbox 360 console through the USB port.
Step 5: Go to the Media menu on your Xbox screen. Select "Portable Device" from the menu. All the readable files saved on the external drive should be available to read on your Xbox 360.
N.B. Xbox's connection with an external drive is read-only. You can only read files that are already on the drive after connecting. You can't save game files or anything else on the Xbox main drive onto the external hard drive. Also, USB storage devices cannot be used for Xbox live marketplace content.

Computer won't read hard drive in bios nor on start up

The first step is to ensure the hard drive is functional. Test it on another machine. Then check if the computer has the ability to read the newer drive. There may also be a bios update that may allow recognizing the newer drive.
