Lumix TZ3 keeps giving the same error message: "Please turn camera off and then on again"

Hi,
I've had my Lumix DMC-TZ3S for just over a year and a half now. Recently it has begun giving me the error message "Please turn camera off and then on again" every time I turn it on. I don't know what the problem is. I've done my fair share of internet searching and some sites mention a potential lens problem; it's true when I turn it on the lens doesn't extend, but maybe it doesn't even get a chance to before it gives me the error message.
I would really appreciate any help or advice; I love love love this camera and can't afford a new one right now.
Thanks so much for your help!

Hi, I too have a Lumix DMC TZ3, and a few days ago it began the displaying the same message; "please turn off the camera and try again". When I do so, the camera powers up, but the lense extends, then retracts, extends again before retracting, then the message appears. The camera functions perfectly when playback mode is selected and lens does not have to extend. I was near a beach at the time so it's possible sand may have somehow found its way into tthe lens mechanism.

If anyone has advice, I{d appreciate hearing it. Or if soemone could recommedna good camera repair shop in Quito,Ecuador that would be great.

Same problem here, the camera has worked fine until today, al of a sudden (without being dropped or hit in any way) it's giving me the same error message.

I am able to snap a couple of pictures before I get the message though.  I get the message approximately 30 seconds after I turn it on, whether I take a picture or not.
    Please someone help!!

Sorry to tell you guys this but you definetly have lens faults, for you firwol i can say that you have a focus lens or image stabilizer fault, bob80 sand can definetly mess your lens around and is going to need a service. you can check the error codes. you need to do exactly what i say. turn camera off, mode switch to red camera selection, this has to be done quick, turn camera on holding the ois+ arrow up button, then quickly hold ois+menu+arrow left. post the error then i will tell you what is wrong.

I have the same problem and sending it to the company for repair (with uncertain outcome) is not cost effective. Does anyone know of other sources for servicing/repiar that might be cheaper?

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 Lens Won´t Open

This is a common problem with TZ3s. Power the camera on, then puff a little graphite onto the lens cover and coax it open with a tooth pic. Do this, powering the camera on/off till lens opens normally. Add little more graphite if necessary, but sparingly.

Graphite is used because it is extremely slippery, but will not attract dust like an oil will. At the same time, it is black! so you don't want to use anymore than absolutely necessary make lens work. Even then, check to be sure lens itself is clean after, and wipe carefully with an Eyeglass lens cloth only if necessary.

Another option in to remove the lens cover altogether by just pulling the leafs out of the camera. Another option is to sell your working but lens cover problem to a repairman on ebay, and buy a good TZ3 or TZ5 on ebay used, refurbished or new. Good prices if you bide your time.

Don't put in your best bid to the very last minute of the auction. In the mean time, put a camera you are interested in on your MyEbay Watch list and set a reminder alarm on your cell phone about 5 minutes before the auction is to close, then if the price is still good, enter your best bid 30 seconds before the end of the auction. Refresh the auction page on your PC to keep track of the bidding right up to the last 30 minutes so you can see the last remain bid and if it is worth outbidding on this camera. Again, if you are not in a hurry and bide your time, you can get a great buy. There are plenty of these cameras sold every day.

Low battery maybe? Try holding camera firmly in one hand, with camera on and in record mode, and strike in on its edge firmly on the heal of your other hand. This technique is often sucessful with temporary camer 'quirks' like freezing, lens not fully retracting, etc.
