It is very common to get faults with the main program(application) on tomtom satnavs. Download the instructions from www.tomtom.com Connect your device to tomtom using your pc and tomtom home. It should update the application. On the web site is full instructions on reinstalling all the programs to the device however you will need to save your map and install it from this backup once application has been installed as you cannot download a new map without subscription or payment. Check the website for the latest post codes for your map and install it as well This is free. MAKE A BACKUP of the device first as if anything goes wrong you can reinstall the backup.
I was also unable to get TomTom Home to recognise my VIA 160. I called TomTom Support and was advised that there was a programming issue with TomTom Home and it was being addressed. They advised I would receive an email notifying me when the Home Application had been updated to allow connection with the VIA 160. At 21 February, I still have not heard anything back from TomTom and have not checked to see if an updated version of Home is available. If there is, hopefully the new version will work with VIA 160.. JT
Install ToTom Home on your PC, it is free on tomtom homepage, and connect the gps on it. Through Tomtom home you will be able to install voices, cars, lots of funny stuffs
Connect your TomTom to your PC and open the drive in "my computer". Locate the ttgo.bif. Copy and paste the ttgo.bif onto your desktop (do not skip this step in case something goes wrong) then go back to the TomTom and delete the ttgo.bif. after deleting ttgo.bif open TomTom home. It should then tell you you need a operating system. Let TomTom load the system. You may have to do this a couple of time to fet the latest operating system back onto your TomTom.
Hello, I own a TomTom also. I have listed the procedures from TomTom Home and hope this will work. First try a soft reset (Reset button is located at the bottom of the TomTom device next to where the DC plug plugs in). Make sure your batteries are fully charged up or the USB cord is plugged in.
If your device is not starting up properly, follow the steps below:
If you have backed up your TomTom to your computer, then you can reinstall the TomTom application from your backed up data.*In rare cases, your TomTom device may not start correctly or may stop responding. If this happens, try resetting your device. A reset does not delete any data.
Here is a solution that worked in my case (constant reboots after voice select)
Plug your tomtom into your PC.
Run TomTom Home
Select the option to run your TomTom through your PC (TT Home)
You should be greated with the select language screen
Then simply select language etc.
When you get to the voice selection: select a voice (here TTHome should freeze) <- also strangely enough notice the cancel button doesn't on the screen (as it does when doing this on the device)
Don't panic TT Home should start working again in a few seconds
Disconnect your TomTom and that should have solved the problem, the normal map screen should show up upon starting up your TomTom
This solved the issue for me, hope it does for you good luck!
Reset your device Reset your TomTom using a straightened paper clip.
If you use a PDA, check the manual that came with your PDA to see how to reset it.
Try removing your SD card and inserting again. If the problem persists then I recommend you use your backed up copy to restore the SD card. You did make a back up on your PC, right?
The other possibility is that in the preferences section of you tom tom the wrong map has been selected or a map that it cannot read has been loaded. Remember newly purchased maps must be activated first before use.
I made a copy of may original SD card and use that in my tomtom. If anything goes wrong, I can always restore it from the original. I also made a copy on my PC using the Tomtom "Home" application.
CHANGE MY TOM TOM ONE BACK TO ENGLISH
After connectin go PC, appears a red cicle with white X inside. PC does not recognize device.
Albert. Thanks
