If it shows Video 1 in the corner and you can still hear it, it sounds like you are having resolution problems. Play with your settings and get it tuned right, or have it auto tune.

One way to do it is to hold the power "button" down for i think 30 seconds, when everything is plugged in and it should auto detect.

Good luck with that, and be weary of people who don't know what they are talking about. PS3's are region free for PS3 games.

It's because your trying to play american games on a japanese system. See the japanese system is different because of not only how much Power it needs to function (I'd be wary about that btw) as well that a Japanese PS3 can only play Japanese PS3 games. American games wont work for it.

Unlock uk ps3 region coding please

you can't unlock the region coding in your ps3.

All the PS3 games are region free. That means it dosent matter where you bought the console, or where you buy your games, they will all be compatible.

There are a few things to be aware of though.

First the games still exist in PAL, or NTSC versions. That means if your are using and older TV witch does not have HDMI support, some games will not work correct, you may experience off colors, or black white screen or other odd things. If you use a new TV with HDMI there is nothing to worry about. since using HDMI signals there is no suchs things as PAL, or NTSC. (this i got while surfing the net...don't know if its true)

if you import a game from another region. You must also buy DLC from that region. meaning if you bought a japanese game you'll have to buy a japanese dlc. if you buy an american dlc or any other dlc it won't work. so buying other region games almost guarantees that you won't be playing any dlc for that game unless you know how to set up psn account in those regions. that part is easy but setting up an account so that you can buy is not since it'll ask for credit card info and it has to match with your billing address....i.e. you are setting up a japanese account but using a uk address for credit card billing... wont work

Third. Some games have region locked online play. witch means if you import a US game, you will only be able to play online with other people who have the US version.

finally The bluray movies are still region locked. you will be able to find some that are not. so unless you find those that are not region locked you will not be able to watch US movies on your UK PS3. of course this goes for dvd too since they are all region coded

Can a PAL Game be Played on Japanese (NTSC) PS3 console?

No. All PS3s are region locked. The PS3 will play games that matches its programmed region.

Since you have a Japanese (NTSC) PS3, it only plays Japanese (NTSC) games

That PAL game you have will only work on a PAL PS3.

Bought american playstation games on holidays and cannot get them to work on my irish console? is there a programe i need to download

Hey nnaughton1,

Unfortunately, the problem that you're encountering is most likely the difference in broadcasting standards between Europe and North America/Japan. North American and Japanese PS3's and games are made to be NTSC-format complaint, as that is the broadcasting standard used in those areas. In Europe however, the PAL format is used instead, so PS3's and games sold there are generally PAL-compliant. In order for a game to function correctly on any console, it should be in the same format as the console itself.

Please keep in mind that while PS3 games may be “region-free,” Sony does not currently provide official support for NTSC/PAL conversion on PS3 consoles.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

MY japoneese ps3

The pal ps2 games and dvds will not play on a Japanese ps3 due to region coding. You can play all ps3 games and blu ray films because they do not use region coding. Some games will also play differently on a ps3, for example, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune (I highly recommend the game) will not have any blood on a Japanese ps3. The region coding feature can not be changed/modified. I would recommend returning Japanese ps3 and purchasing a European model instead if that is possible. Bon chance.

Ps3

The problem with that is the PS3 that you bought is tuned for Japanese dvds and games, You may have to get your PS3 modded to support the French games. However I am unaware of the legality of having your PS3 modded.
Good Luck
