Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

1 Answer

About a 5 days ago I bought a 250 gig hard drive for my xbox 360 and when I went to use the transfer cable I had also freshly bought to transfer from my games from my old hard drive to the new one I was unsure how to use the transfer cable. I was unsure how to use it. So I saw it said something about hooking the hard drive to my computer and so I did. I also used the disc software that came with the transfer kit. In doing so I did not know that this would cause issues with the hard drive. So the problem I am having now is that my new hard drive is not recognized by my xbox 360 when before the attempted transfer of data the hard drive was recognized. I want to undo this mess I have started and really need the help. Do know how I can fix my new 250 gig hard drive so that it works with my xbox 360?

Here is a video where someone uses the cable and DOES NOT hook it up to their pc. Try this method and see if it works.

Have just added a hard drive to my son's xbox360 but it isn't recognising it. what should i do?

sir i think the way how you added a hard drive on your xbox 360 is not correctly... try this instruction on how to add a hard drive on your xbox360...

The Xbox comes in two versions, one with a hard drive and one without. Enhance game play and speed by adding a hard drive to cache the game data during play. Adding a hard drive or swapping out the original for a larger drive is easy and gives you as much storage as you could ever want.
Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions

    • 1 Select a hard drive with enough space to hold all of the games and media you wish to carry with you. Look for drives with 7200-RPM specifications for faster speed when loading and caching games.
    • 2 Format the hard drive to FAT64 using the Windows format utility. Drives larger than 32 gigs will require third party formatting software although Windows 98 is capable of formatting up to 127 gig drives.
    • 3 Turn off the power and remove all cables, including the audio, video and controller cables. Lay the Xbox on its side with the front facing you. Look at the left side and pull the hard drive cover away from the console gently.
    • 4 Place the hard drive over the Xbox hard drive bay with the tapered end towards the front of the console and the connector end toward the bottom. Connect the cable carefully and verify no pins have bent.
    • 5 Align the hard drive slot with the back of the drive and set it into place until you hear a click. Press the cover on carefully and connect all of the cables. Turn the power on and verify the Xbox powers up properly.

I have the new xbox kinetic and i updated the game burnout paradise to version 1.9 and now when i go to play the game it tells me that the update is on the memory unit and should be placed on the hard...

Yes, this is a major problem with the new xbox 360. If you bought the 250 gig package, you shouldn't have to worry about this, but it sounds like you bought the 4 gig package. You don't have a hard drive. You only have an IMU(internal memory unit). You can buy an xbox 360 slim hard drive online. Install it into the hard drive slot, located on the side of the console. You're not the only one with this problem, lots of games require hard drives. For example, in halo reach, you cannot play co-op campaign or firefight without a hard drive.

New 360

Your old 20 gig will work with your new xbox, the hard drives are compatable no matter how old the 360 is. You can transfer all the stuff but you will have to call xbox and get a transfer kit. Its an adapter so you can attach both hard drives to the same xbox and a disc that runs the program. call 18004MYXBOX and tell them you want one. They are free and you will get it in the mail in around a week.
