I have a poulanpro 260 chainsaw when i went to use it ofter 6 months,it would not start.had old stail gas. i change the gas, cleaned the air filter, check and cleaned the spark plug, still not starting. one thing that i noticed was that the primer ppump leaks fuel when pressed. i don't see any fuel on the spark plug, so i don't think it is getting fuel.

Check the fuel filter, and muffler for plugging. Check the condition of all of the fuel lines. Fix or replace the primer pump. When you get it working right, push the primer quite a number of times to flush all of the old fuel out of the carburetor. Unless the carburetor is in trouble, you should be able to start the engine again. Hope this helps!

Echo Chainsaw will not stay running? has been used a few times in the last 6 months!

Because the unit fires and runs for about 6-8 seconds the issue sounds to be fuel delivery problem. If you changed the fuel lines and checked the diaphragm, was the old lines bad? The carburetor could have sucked up some of the old fuel lines. You may need to change the carburetor.

My poulanpro 260 42cc it start about 10 second then cut off please help.

The first thing to change is the fuel filter. If it still wont run, most likley you will need to rebuild or replace the carb.

Want start

Read the warm start procedure from the operators manual.
1. Pull choke (sets fast idle)
2. Push in choke (fast idle retained)
3. Make sure ignition is on, pull (usually once on my saw)
4. Advance throttle slightly to release fast idle.
I made the mistake ONCE of not setting the fast idle. My shoulder gets sore thinking about it. HTH

Stihl 021 is hard to start, runs very briefly after ignition.

My guess is since you have ignition, it is a fuel issue: 1- the carb or the fuel lines or pump are plugges with dirt, 2- fuel pump is not working,3- carb needs cleaned 4- air filter is plugged which is very common also. When the saws sit for 6 months or so, the cylinder tends to get gummed up cause our gas is SO good & when this happens with one of my saws, I put spray lube in the spark plug hole & turn it over. When I am thinking, I store my saws with the gas tank down, so that gas isnt running into the carb/engine.

Stihl MS 260 Pro wont run wide open or idle.

Hi brandon First change the sparkplug with the same heat range,Check and clean the gas filter with compressed air.Remove the carb and very carefully disassembly entirely.Check the gaskets and the diafragms. At the fuel pump side there is a fine screen(clean it).Check the needle, the spring and lever.Unlock the screws L and H(note how many turns are they).Put the corp of the carb in a special clean solution for 12 hours and then clean it with compressed air(something is clogged there).Put all back together and try to start the engine. regards savumihai71

Chain slips off bar

I would suggest adjusting the tension and cleaning and debris along the chain path (guide bar).

Here's the manual for Poulan PP4218AV =>

http://72.3.225.179/manuals/165555e.pdf

Look at page 6-7 for instructions to adjust the chain tension and page 16 for cleaning the guide bar.
