Creative zen wmv file problems

I have a two day old creative zen. the first night i used it, i downloaded a wmv tv show with no problem...didn't need to convert the file or anything. it went perfectly. all the other times i have tried to download a new wmv show...from the same site as the first time...zen media explorer gives me an error message that says "file type not supported or exceeds playback capability". since wmv is supported, i assume it must exceed playback capability. it won't convert the files when i try to use the conversion tool. any ideas on how to correct this? oh...the firmware is up to date...thanks.

I've started having the same problem. I've got a good lot of videos on my Zen, which all went on perfectly fine being .wmv or .avi and converted like a treat. However I've tried to add these 2 videos on with both .wmv and .avi since yesterday and they won't go on.

I would try to convert that file to AVI through a seperate open source program such as this If that doesn't work...i would try to put a file that is smaller...

Solution 1.
Do Windows Update. It will download and install the service packs that you need as well as the latest driver for your ZEN V Plus if it has found one. Make sure to install all the suggested updates.

Click Start
Type windows update in the search box
Click the Windows Update icon from the search list
Windows Update windows will open
Click the Check for updates button
It will show number of updates available
Click Install Updates
The updates may take a while and your computer might restart a couple of times

Solution 2.
Install the driver/software manually. (Make sure you installed windows update)

Download and install the Software/Driver from this link http://support.creative.com/downloads/download.aspx?nDownloadId=9948
Click on Agree on the Agreement Page
Download will start automatically
Double click the downloaded file

Requirements:

Microsoft® Windows Vista™
Windows Media® Player 11
USB 1.1 port (USB 2.0 recommended for faster transfers)
Creative ZEN V or ZEN V Plus

Notes:

To install this software pack
1. Download the ZNV_PCApp64_LA_6_41_10.exe file into your local hard disk.
2. Close all application and Windows Explorer windows that are currently running.
3. Connect your player to your computer.
4. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the instructions on the screen.

well, creative zen likes avi, mpg and wmv formats

the reason that your creative zen won't read the avi is because the necessary codec is missed.

you can use iorgsoft creative zen video converter to convert the video to mp4,wmv then put them to creative zen.

Cant import video

You need the software for the Mozaic. Most Creative brand players need the software it came bundled with to convert videos before it can added to the player.
If you don't have the Centrale software CD to convert videos, you can download it from Creative's site here:
http://support.creative.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?catID=213&CatName=MP3+Players&subCatID=214&subCatName=ZEN&prodID=17897&prodName=ZEN+Mozaic.
