Thermometer broke on my Dream machine. I'm not sure it was ever trustworthy, but I would like to be able to monitor water temperature. How can I replace it? And is there a better way -- like a digital thermometer with a probe -- to accurately measure water temperature at the brew head. I'm pretty handy.

Er1 is indicated when temperature of the ear thermometeris outside the specified operating ambient temperature range. The thermometer itself is either too cold or too warm for normal functioning. If the Er1 message is displayed, move the thermometer to an environment that is within the normal operating ambient temperature range (see Specifications) and wait until the Er1 message disappears. Depending on ambient conditions, this may take up to 15 minutes.

You should check the temperature of the water coming out from the machine when it show that is heated. If the temperature of the water is about 90C then the problem is with thermometer, and in this case is only an accesorie since the machine can faction properly and make a good espresso.
Hi, Faulty temperature sensor should do this to. A floating thermometer should read water temperature within 3-4 degrees of spa controller. If it is greater than that your sensor is bad. The hi limit is an over heat sensor it does not control the temperature of the water. If the water is heating above 118 degrees and the spa is not shutting down its Hi Limit.
From the symptons you describe, I would say that the oven thermostat is faulty, and in need of replacement.
Make sure your thermometer is o/k by checking it against another one, or boil some water, and check the temp of the boiling water, this should determine if your thermometer is o/k.
Hope this helps.
Hi Sounds like you have a leak in the system. If your handy, you can remove the top. Remove everything. Water tank included. Unplug the machine. Now turn the machine upside down on a towel. There are 2 screws behind the brew head. Remove them, then lift the machine off the top and set it right side up. Now you can see the inside of the machine where the boiler is. Do not touch anything inside the machine. Replace everything and plug the machine in. Now turn the machine on and try to make a shot the same way. This should show you where your trouble is. Once you see where the trouble is, unplug the machine. Contact seattlecoffeegear.com, or 1st-line.com. They can help.
