Clean heads, clean heads, clean heads, etc. Then do the test print to see if the heads are open. I had similar problem with an Epson, had to clean the heads often, finally got to where the heads wouldn't clean so threw it away and bought another one (HP this time, the heads are included in the ink carts, haven't had to clean the heads at all.)

SOURCE: won't print black ink

^^well, the time estimate was for me, i'm not sure how other ppl would fare. i thought i worked pretty slow because i didn't really know what i was doing. i never opened up a printer as complicated as the MFC series before, but i do tinker with my own computer so maybe i have some experience to consider in my difficulty/time needed estimate

C4200 Not printing black ink, which is new

Its purely your CATRIDGE problem...so please open up your printer and check for the two small black colored boxes..in that you can easily identify the B/W one....so if its lighter in weight compared to that of coloured one....you need to refill it or buy a new catridge......THIS is the only solution to this problem..

Epson 1400 won't print blacks

Hi

Many problems regarding Ink with Epson relate to using cheap ink consumables. I recommend you buy original Epson black ink catridge. I know its more expensive but you should see the black ink clear.

Be sure to run head alignment and clean printer option first with the current black ink then replace with the new original Epson ink catridge

Thanks

Andy

Black not printing properly

Take out both the catridges from the Printer......... Take 2 Paper Towels one should be wet with Luke warm water and the other one should be dry........... Take the Colour catridge first turn it upside down and u will see a small copper plate on the catridge from where the ink comes out....... Place the wet paper towel using ur thumb on the Copper plate and press it a lit bit for 10 Seconds...... Now remove it and see whether u see any ink on the paper towel.......... U should see some ink on it now place the dry paper towel on the ink catridge in the same way........ Now do the same procedure again.......... Do the same procedure twice on the Black Catridge................. Now take the dry paper towel and turn the direction of the cartridge so that u can see a Copper plate on it with small boxes just clean that copper plate with the Dry Paper Towel.......... Know insert both the catridges inside the Printer........
Good Luck
