THe standby light will blink a code that should be a repeating code. Please post the count here as that indicates which circuit has the fault. That info coupled with the model number above will allow us to explain what is broken and perhaps what parts need to be changed to fix it.

17 times seems a bit much, but let me look it up and I'll get back to you. Please note that it is Friday nite and I may not get back to you for a few days. I'm out at a Boy Scout event.

Turn off after a few hours

If the TV turn itself off then perform the following steps:

(i) Check if the Sleep timer is activated.

(ii) Check if the Parental Guide prohibits viewing during that time and/or limits amount of viewing time per day.

(iii) Check the batteries on your remote, low battery power may cause random signals from the remote.

(iv) Disconnect all the cables from the TV then reconnect them after a few hours.

(v) Ensure the power cord from the TV is directly connected to a functional wall outlet.

(vi) You may also try resetting the TV to the original factory settings by pressing the Reset button on the remote control supplied with the TV when in Menu.

The following is the information indicated by the blinking patter of the standby/timer lamp on the TV:

2 times : Power does not come on.
Load on power line shorted.

3 times : The TV has entered standby mode.

4 times : Has entered standby state after
horizontal raster.
Vertical deflection pulse is
stopped.
Power line is shorted, or
power supply is stopped.

5 times: No raster is generated.
CRT Cathode current detection
reference pulse output is small.

6 times: No picture

9 times : No sound

Furthermore, the TV is equipped with a self-diagnosis function that you can use to determine whether the issue is related to any hardware malfunctioning. Perform the step given below to run self diagnosis:

Quickly press the remote command button in the following order from the standby state.

Display -------> Channel 5 ---------> Volume -(minus) --------> Power ON.

If the Self Diagnosis display numeral "1" for any parameters then a fault has been detected and service will be required.

Have Sony KP-41S4U Projection TV. Am in France and a friend will look at it if I can find wiring diagram (lost). Fault is a 'flashing picture'. Started doing it when background was 'pale/white' but...

Hello Folks,
Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry, but my solution was to sell the TV. Am moving on to a canal boat and am getting rid of all sorts of stuff. Was going to repair TV before selling. I've given the buyer your Website details so you will be hearing from him.
Best regards,
Joe Killman

PS By the way, am living in France. Does that make any difference?

Tv flickers/blink

Given the vintage of set it might be hard to even get parts for it. And being a Sony, it is traditionally very expensive to repair and not really cost effective. Best bet is to give set a decent burial and shop for a new set.
