This
indicates that the wire bundle running through the hinge has been
compromised. Some wire has frayed apart and is making intermittent
contact with itself or the lid movement is causing the wire bundle to
pull on one of the video connectors.
In order to fix this
problem, you will need to remove the notebook's front hinge cover &
check the bundle of wires connecting the motherboard to the LCD screen.
If this bundle of wires is damaged, then you will have to get it
replaced.
The problem could be the LVDS (video) cable or the LCD panel itself. Does the image change when you play with the lid up and down or when you apply pressure on the display sides over the display bezel ? Also what's happening when you change the display resolution ?
There's only one video channel for the internal and external monitors so if the external signal is normal then your logic board (graphic chip) should be OK. Maybe one of the two LVDS cable connector is not well seated in his socket or could be the LCD panel that's going bad. The only way to test it is to open the bottom case and the display assy to check the connectors or try a known working LVDS cable. Was the ibook dropped ? Stiff hinges ?

My 15" Powerbook G4 Aluminum screen has these stripes that changes when i flip it back and forth. the most comfortable way to work it to flip it as back as I can so the stripes disappear. As far as I understand I have a problem with the Cable LVDS and I want to exchange it. I would like to ask if it is complicated to do that and If someone knows a guide for doing it. Thanks Ronny
The image doesn't change and there is no change when I change the resolution.
Its just these strips that appear
