Canon PowerShot SX110 IS Digital Camera Logo
Posted on Oct 22, 2010

My canon SX110 IS camera has recently started displaying 'battery is low' and flashing the red low battery sign even a few minutes after putting in brand new batteries. I have tried with several new sets of batteries. What can I do? Thanks

I had the same problem with new batteries reporting as "low" and instant shut-off. After I found that it would stay on when plugged into USB, I suspected a firmware bug in the camera (I am a computer engineer). So I thought "how can I fool it?" I then found that it would stay on if you power it up with the rotary dial BETWEEN the video and manual ("M") setting -- in the "illegal" position. The after it's on, every mode works!

Canon PowerShot SX110 IS Digital Camera charge fully battery after one pics show low battery sign

This is probably a battery issue and not a camera issue. Batteries with low output or low power can be due to them sitting and not being used for long periods of time. This can affect their ability to get a full charge as their "memory" is reduced regardless of what the charge light indicator displays. Even taking a battery that has been sitting for a long period and charging it to full charge, might only have limited power. Some of these can be returned to almost full capacity, but it takes multiple, repeated, alternating, charges and power deletions to rebuild the memory. In many cases, however, the battery just needs to be replaced.

Camera sx110 won't start when start button is pushed

I'm going to ask the silliest of questions: Did you check the batteries?

I mean, I know they are there, but are they any good?
What type are they? Alkalines sometimes just don't cut it.

You need the Lithium type. They are expensive initially but they last a long time -if you don't use the flash excessively.

All of the pictures are grainy and very dark- not usable camera at all- less than 2 years old I have re formatted the SD card, changed the batteries, and reset the camera to default settings

To fix your issue with the Canon Powershot SX110 IS Digital Camera, try cleaning the lens. A huge issue with malfunctioning pictures can be as objective as a dirty lens. If that doesn't solve the issue, try to make sure that your flash is working to its full power. If you are taking a picture in a low-light area and the flash isn't giving off a strong enough light, this will cause grainy/noisy dark photos. Lastly, try playing around the with settings on the configuration screen. Sometimes digital cameras can malfunction, even after reformatting, and will apply alternate settings from what you originally had set.

Hope this helps!

If i charged 24 hour s display shows low battery...

Hi there,

Well it means you need to change the battery in your camera, how old is your camera battery?
It seems that camera's battery do not hold the charge, most of because two resins - 1. the battery's are dead (very old). or 2. the charger  not charge the battery's.

Make sure you are using Lithium batteries. Alkaline batteries will go dead immediately in this camera. I've tried it.

A580 wont switch on with new correctly inserted batteries

Check for battery current ratings, Canon cameras need AA batteries with current rating above 1200 mAh, I use Energizer rechargeable batteries for my Canon Powershot SX110 IS. The batteries last more if we use the flash option wisely.

How to take infra red photos with canon sx110 camera

You cannot take infra red photos with that camera. Sorry. There is a filter built into the camera that filters out IR information.

Replace battery sign in New canon A590si camera.

You're using the wrong batteries. You need to purchase lithium batteries. They are quality batteries for high powered, battery operated electronics. Personally, I have a battery charger and use rechargable duracell batteries. (HR6/ DC1500/ NiMH/ 1,2V) Gives you approximately 16 hrs before having to recharge.

CANON POWERSHOT A530 LOW BATTERY READING

Alicia,
Mentioned on my blog that the last paragraph of the advisory states:

""PowerShot A530 and A540 digital cameras affected by this phenomenon will be repaired free of charge, regardless of warranty status. Accordingly, if the opening/closing spring on the inside of the battery cover of your PowerShot A530 or A540 digital camera sticks out, please do not use the camera. Instead, please contact a Canon call center (1-800-OK-CANON) at your earliest convenience."

But also mentioned that if they don't help, a temporary fix is to insulate the spring from the battery contact plate. Merely place a small piece of tape between the portion of spring that's sticking out and the metal battery contact plate.
