My kp57w5500 has a double red image on everything i watch... seems like im looking at a 3-d tv only it is not lol. Is this a fixable problem or am i just better off buying a new tv?

Whatever it is, though, it's hardly related to the TV if it only shows during movie playback and not in live TV.

You should have a TV repairman look at your set to see if you have a bad tube in the set, It might just be a convergence ishue, if thats the case it might be worth fixing.

Unplug the TV from the ac wall outlet for about 4 minutes then plug it back in and turn it on. If it still has a double image then tell me if it's affecting the menu screen from the TV (not the cable menu). And is the double image in red and blue?

Sounds like your describing convergence ICs. They cost about 10.00 each and you will need to replace both of them. And possibly the resistors that power them total cost under 30 dollars if you do he soldering yourself. Hope this helps.

Do the colors seem "separated" somehow?  Sounds like the projectors might have become misaligned. Has the TV been knocked by pets/children/spouse?
