Won't record, when i look tape is not turning or playing or moving forward

Hi, here's the thing...

- the batteries are new - correctly put in
- the first time i pushed record - i recorded "hello hello testing" and the counter moved
- red indicator light is on

BUT:
- when i tried to play - that is, i pushed the rewind - the tape moved a bit, but it looked stuck and wouldn't turn

SO HERE'S WHAT I DID:
i played with the unit a bit - that is, i pushed several buttons, turned the tape the other way and tried to fast forward so it would play but nothing

- i tried rewinding and fast forward while tape is playing (is this bad?)
- i tried rewinding and fast forward while it is recording (is this bad?)
^ and still nothing happened.

not moving forward, or backward or playing, or recording, now even the counter is not moving at all but the red light is still on, and just a hissing sound is coming out from the recorder which couldnt be from the tape as it is not moving.

*the black thingies that is supposed to play the tape is not turning.

i tried to clean the head per the manual, but that didnt work either.

help please. any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

SOURCE: Won`t Rewind

Do you still have the remote control? Try with the remote. If this works, the button of the camera is broken and have to be replace by a qualified technician. Good luck!

SOURCE: rewinding to listen to recording

You should use the computer with Digital Voice Editor software to have more options when trabscribing. You could then use the transcribing keys to playback your recordings and regulate the velocity of the playback.
Download Digital Voice Editor Version 3.1.03 for Windows Vista/XP/2000.
64 bit version operating systems are not supported, though

Sony taperecorder TC-355 will only run in fast forward. when trying to play in any speed tape moder went into fast forward and would not play tape.

If the speed-controlled roller is not closing to pinch the tape when PLAY is selected, the recorder will play in a fast mode. You will need Isopropyl alcohol, contact cleaner, Q-tips a screwdriver needle-nose pliers and a steady hand to clean every moving part in that Reel-To-Reel and then lightly lubricate the moving parts.
While you are in there I would change the belts as well. Or send it to a qualified repair shop and pay $ 125.00 to $ 200.00 for same thing to be done. Take your time, it's just a big puzzle, make sure you video or document everything you remove so it goes back together correctly. Good Luck!

Error message "push the reset switch"

Pull the battery out to reset it. Get a DV tape cleaner to clean out the tape deck.

That should solve both.

Toshiba dvr670ku - vhs tape won't play, shuts recorder off

look to see if tape will fully load and if FF or REWIND work, if not a transport problem, drive mechanism not moving the tape, unit will sense this and shut unit off----even a problem in the loading mechanism for the VHS tape not loading the tape all the way will do the same thing.

The dictaphone wont rewind or fast forward and makes a bleeping noise

Hi,
Does the tape move when you press rewind or fast forward.
If the tape moves for a few seconds then bleeps it sound like a sensor problem.
If it only bleeps when the rewind and fast forward are pressed and the play is ok it sounds like the actuator motor is faulty, this motor enables the rewind and fast forward.
Hope this helps.

I recorded 2 hours of footage this passed weekend, just as I was finishing the head cleaner warning came up. I ran the tape through. I tried reviewing my footage today with playback and it is acting like...

I've had a similar problem, the solution to mine was that one of the tape heads had moved out of position by a fraction and so it was having problems tracking back through the tape footage... if you put in a tape that you know isn't blank and press play then hold fastforward to skip through the tape can you see footage on the tape fast forwarding? If so you need an engineer to realign the tape heads for you.

Recording and Playback error

I'm not sure what the solution is, but I am having the same probelms, and I would appreciate any help with this since I am shooting a childrens camp and I am fairly isolated and don't have the time to swop cameras or send it to get fixed. I need to know if the recording is fine (video and audio) but the playback is not working correctly...or is it not recording correctly or playing back correctly. The sound cuts out from time to time in playback. Thank you.

VHS won't play correctly - no picture, muffled low voices

Several things.
Check the tape, by opening the cover, to see if the tape is damaged. Look for signs of crinkling at the edges. This is often caused by the roller being worn on one of the VCR.
If it's damaged there's not a lot you can do.
If there's no damage try taking it out of the cassette box and fitting it in a new 'good make' blank tape tape box, discard the new tape in it. Still no good?
Next step, is the tape a movie/tv made by a commercial company. Or a recording on a blank tape?
Did it ever play? (if a movie) if not suspect a pirate tape report seller to FACT.
If a blank tape, try recording on a blank section. If that doesn't work and your video will record on other blank tapes. The tape has something wrong with it.
Some video recorders will play tapes with bad problems IE bad tracking, that others refuse to play, but you will either have to find one owned by a friend or buy one with that claim.

20 year old Dictaphone Voice Processor Microcassette not working

Not sure if you're still having problems with this portable, but the first thing I would check is to make sure that you've put the batteries UNDER the battery clip in the battery compartment. Does the machine just make a 'beeping' noise when it tries to play, rew, or FF?

Play back on Sanyo mr-929 reel-to-reel tape recorder is backwards

I also have an MR-929. The information that you need is in the 'Stereophonic 4 track stereo''. As stereo is only two tracks, there is another 2 tracks in addition to the one you are listening to. Wind the entire reel to the empty spool, and then play that. As you have to physically turn the reel over to do so, you should then hear the other tracks (or track, if recorded in mono).
I use my 929 to play my parents recording of my family from the late 60s, which were recorded on a valve (tube) Ferguson machine, which had a green "magic eye" level indicator, which as a child I found fascinating!

Canon camocorder thick gray lines on ever recording

Supreemwun,
Canon support was of no help. They ****! To fix the problem this is what I figured out.

  1. Before you start filming what you want record or just advance the tape 10 secs or so.
  2. Record/ video whatever you planned.
  3. Now when the thick grey lines come up on play back don't freak out.
  4. Simply rewind the tape to the beginning and record briefly in the blank portion at the beginning (careful not to tape too long as to tape over your intended recording).
  5. Rewind and play the thick grey lines should now be gone.
How did I figure this out just a fluke. No cleaning, no spray pretty simple. At first did not understand it but it works EVERYTIME for me. I'll deal with it until I get around to buying a new HD video camera and it won't be a Canon. Hope this helps.
