Hi, i have a dell inspiron 6400 and since yesterday when i turned it off it re-started itself on and enter directly in to the media direct express automatically.
i´ve been starting it and pushing the media button all day long and the power button, and an hour ago it finally entered windows. i belived that it solved so i turned it off and when i try to turn it on again it happened again and i can´t enter to windows now.
whan should i do?

Turn off, as it starts to reboot tap f8 key continually and choose safe mode. from safe mode do a system restore to last restore point before problem began.

Boot your system to Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly). Go to System Restore and choose a date when your system worked OK. Note: with System Restore, everything, including your documents and other files you saved on the hard drive, will roll back to that date.
If you have your Dell OEM XP/Vista disc, then boot up and insert it and shut down again. Push the start button and rapidly tap the F12 key until you're in boot selection. Select the DVD player and hit enter, then at he prompt "hit any key to start from cd" do so. Let Windows Setup take you all the way to where you have the option to hit the R key to repair. Do so. You'll be in a DOS environment so at the prompt, type FIXBOOT and hit enter. If this does not fix the problem, repeat the process and next time at the prompt type FIXMBR and hit enter(Master Boot Record). Either one of these may restore your default Boot sequence and get you out of being stuck in Media Direct.
It may be temporary, or the HDD may have failed completely; the latter may be for multiple reasons: impact, overheating, induced electromagnetic field (like a cellphone put in immediate vicinity of the drive), or just bad luck.
With such problems it's always a tough choice: - try various methods of recovering the drive, reinstalling the system and so on, risking that the drive contents will be even harder to recover by a professional data recovery company - or leave it as it is and seek professional help.
If you don't have anything so important on the HDD that would justify the big $$$ needed for data recovery, you can try various system recovery tools, and if they fail, just replace the harddrive with a new one and reinstall operating system from scratch.
Of course, if your laptop is still under warranty, you should call Dell for a warranty repair.
Make sure you do not have a bootable CD or DVD in the drive. If that does not resolve, then try holding the "home" (Media Direct) button while pressing the Power button on.
First hit ctrl-alt-del at the same task manager will open and you can shut it down there then go to control panel and click on add/remove programs, select media direct and click uninstall
Invest in a couple USB drives and install the other os's on them. before you boot up plug in the apropriate drive and boot from it. Thats less complicated and painful to me
If the issue is no sound after reinstallation of Windows, then your issue is most likely a driver issue. Many items in the system will function with native windows drivers but the audio on a I6400 is not one of them. Installation of drivers in the correct order is critical to Dell portables functioning correctly. Correct driver order is:
Notebook System Software. Chipset Utility Video Driver Audio Driver Modem Driver Network Driver Wireless Driver Touchpad Driver Quickset Utility
All other applications and drivers (MS Office, Printer driver etc)
This system is also equipped with Media Direct capability. For Media Direct to function, the system's HDD must be prepared using the Media Direct installation CD, then WIndows installed, then the Media Direct application. If you have no plans to use media direct, this can be skipped (Most people do)
