R-820BK/BW Microwave Operation Manual
Due to the risks of death or serious injury the above owners manual suggests that a burnt out light demands a service call by a qualified technician.
That said, if you have a basic level of competence and read the safety hazards involved with microwaves (see a good resource on microwave safety and repair at:
http://www.kellerstudio.de/repairfaq/sam/micfaq.htm
Often, the microwave is divided into two main compartments, the electronics compartment(usually immediately behind the front control panel), and the high voltage compartment(usually behind the electronics compartment). The light bulb is likely in one of these two primary compartments. If it is in the high voltage compartment with the HV Capacitor and magnetron, changing the bulb becomes much more dangerous.
Please be very careful if you do decide to do this on your own... unlike most electronics microwaves can remain lethal, even when unplugged. Hope this helps.

GE microwave lights and fan do not work

If one of the surface light bulbs burnt out it may have shorted out the control board. Take the control board out and look for a burnt spot on the board. It may be able to be repaired with a drop of solder or solder in a jumper wire. Or you can purchase a new board, which may cost more than you want to put into the microwave.

Lights and vent do not work

I have ran into a few of these that shorted out the control board when the light bulb burnt out. Depending on how far you want to go, you can take out the board and look for a burnt spot and possibly repair the board. Or purchase a new board, which may be more than what you want to put into the microwave.

Microwave light is burnt out

Accessing the internal light bulb on model KBMC140HSS bulb will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download Whirlpool / Kitchenaid owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

These models use halogen lamps. You must not touch the new one with your bare skin, as the oils will shorten the bulb life.

Whirlpool model MH7100XYQ microwave, exhaust fan

sometimes the control board will short out and not let the fan or cook top light work.
if you want to try and remove the control board, look on the back of the board for any burnt off tracers. those are the wiring connections on the board that move power from a wire to a relay.
it is usually easy to see the burnt out piece, and if you can solder a new wire across where the burnt out part is, then it should work ok again.
if you cant solder, then a new control board will cost about 125-150 bucks.
