You need to Pull Lamp out and Look inside at Color Wheel ,Make sure it is OK and not the Same Problem. If it is OK,Then Look at Ballast Board see if it is Arking if so replace the Lamp.

If I am to see visually if the Ballast board is ARKING as you say, then I am to infer I need to have the back off or the lamp door off while turning on the tv? Is this possible? If so is this safe? I have pretty much assumed my next step would be to replace the lamp, however with the noise and all I was unsure I would be able to fix it. If I just need to replace the lamp this is good news. After posting this I had left the TV unplugged for about 10 or so hours and later plugged it back in and turned it on and it came on with no problem??? Weird huh? I am fairly confident that it is the lamp however and I will simply need to shell out the money and replace it. If you or anyone else have any insight into this and can confirm or change my thoughts on this I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks again. W.

PS. I would replace the Lamp. Lamps last between 5,000-8,000 playing hours, when lamp is going bad set will play for so long then turn off and finally Tv will not come on.

Thank you so much for your time and expertise... I will check on that.

I intuitively thought that was going to be the solution, I greatly hope that is the "FIX" and my tv I bought originally from a friend for $300 will continue working for a few more years? Not bad considering $300 and additional $120 for the color wheel so far? I think I will still be ahead if I only have to replace the Lamp. Ok, thank so much once again. Your help has meant a lot. Have a great day. Regards, Seagoat51

Hope this helps:

Resetting the counter Once you have installed your OEM replacement lamp, resetting the counter is a very simple procedure:
• Begin with the TV powered off.
• Point your remote towards your TV.
• Press:
• Menu + 1 + 8 + 2 + Power.
• Your TV set should now say "Loading Factory".
• Browse down to "Option" then press Enter (or the right cursor button).
To exit the service menu, hit press the EXIT button or just turn off your TV (remember not to turn on your TV immediately afterward!).
NOTE: The Mute+1+8+2 buttons needs to be pressed down consecutively and fairly quickly. If your TV does not enter the service menu after using this combination, you can substitute MENU instead of MUTE. This seems to work for some sets. Also, the right cursor arrow also acts as the ENTER button, so try it if you're having difficulty with the ENTER button.

My samsung 42 inch hdtv is making a buzzing noise

First. The whirring or buzzing sound you hear is the Color Wheel and it needs to be replaced. Second, since I do not know when and if the original lamp has been replaced it is a good idea to replaced the lamp. The bad Color Wheel is the one causing the set to shut down.

Great reasoning work! In fact, the lamp will not light if the color wheel does not spin-up. Fans will not stop the process of lamp ignition. Instead, a fan will be detected and a message will appear on the screen telling which fan has stopped. You need to have the color wheel replaced.

I have a Samsung rear projection tv. It has been

The Lamp probably is bad but it going bad would not cause a buzzing sound. I have a hunch that the Color Wheel Motor is bad causing the buzzing noise. It is a major repair and the cost would be expensive. But this is the deal, you will need to get a qualified repair person out to confirm the symptom to be sure. You can go ahead and replace the Lamp to get the set working again and use it for as long as you can stand the buzzing noise. If it is the Color Wheel Motor, I would check prices on replacement sets just to get a feel of how much you are willing to spend for repairs.
I hope this helps,

Samsung DLP HL-R4266W..no sound or picture. TV is completely dead

Assuming the noise is a high-pitched whine, then yes, it is the color wheel.  If the color wheel goes out, the TV will turn on for a while, then turn off when it can't establish color wheel sync.  The color wheel has to be in sync with the mirrors on the DLP, so if sync can't be established, the TV turns off.
You can order a new color wheel from Sears or partstore.com (among other places) and replace it yourself, if you are so inclined.

No picture or sound after replacing lamp

Possible bad color wheel...

Pull the lamp out & look inside where the lamp sends the light-

does the color wheel look defective? If so,replace it.

Or, the lamp ballast may be bad. After that, usually replace

complete engine.
