First try connecting this USB drive to a different computer.
If this did not work then the USB adapter case is faulty, then remove the hard drive from the case and attach the hard drive to an USB hard drive adapter then plug it into a working computer's US port. If the hard drive is OK then the computer will see this as an external storage device and you can open the folders and files to backup the data off this hard drive.
If this does not work then there are companies that can recovery data from faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

My Iomega LDHD250U 250 GB USB External Hard Drive's Power and Usb ports WILLNOT CONNECT!!!!!!! Please help ive been trying to figure out why all day.

Dear Friend, Your I-Omega case might be bad or the controller inside that connects everything. I suggest you to get: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Apricorn-Universal-Hard-Drive-Adapter/10811435. and pulled your hard drive enclosure apart, then removed your hard drive and connect with the external adapter. Usually comes with a SATA or IDE connector for data and power adapter. After connecting everything plug into your PC and it should be able to recognize.

My iomega external hard drive is not being recognised in 'My Computer' but is in the device manager. Software updated. Not sure what to try next to use it?

Hi, Thanks for using fixya.

1. With the device connected to the usb port Right click on My Computer choose
manage. On the left side make sure storage is expanded double click disk
management on the left upper side see if Iomega is listed.

2. If it is on the lower part find your Iomega right click on it choose change
drive letter and paths. Click on change, you will see a drop down arrow click
that choose the first available letter, Now click on change. Open My Computer see
if it is now listed. If it is you are done.

I require instruction on the use of my portable hard drive.

its very easy. just connect to your computer usb port. If your drive requires power put the power adapter. Before connect to frontpanel USB of your system. Once check your front panel usb is working or not. Check with some other memory stick or mouse etc.. Because if your front panel usb connect reverse there is chance to lose your hard drive..

Iomega 250 GB external stopped working

This is really not a solution, but you should all try to connect your iomega to a imac, and use the Disk Utility (in Utilities folder), if you have any luck the hard drive will be recognized and you will be able to format it

Plugged in my iomega hard drive and not connecting to computer ?

Make sure you don't plug it into a USB hub. Some USB ports on computers can go bad from time to time. See if you can switch it.

If that doesn't work go to the control panel of your computer. Go to administrative tools. Go to computer management. Go to storage and select disk management. Make sure you see that partition for you hard drive. Format it to NTFS if you have to.

External drive wont mount

Hi,

Try doing flea power & the power cycle.

1. Disconnect all the peripherals like keyboard, mouse, printer, scanner & monitor and power supply from the CPU.

And press & hold the power button for 2 min, it will release the flea power from the mother board.

Restart the system & check.

2. Disconnect everything.wait for 5-10 minutes and then connect every thing.

Restart the system.

If it does not resolve the issue then you can try this :

Check this before you try to edit the registry values.

http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man1/profiles.1.html

Just remove the registry key it happen when this key is corrupted.

HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USBSTOR

And delete all references to the external hard drive.

And also HLKM\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB

and found the keys associated with the USB to IDE value.

After restarting the system, the drive shold be detected & configured automatically by the computer.
