I have a Polaroid PDM-0082 and no matter which DVD I put in it, it says "loading" for a while, then it says "no disc". I have cleaned the lens with rubbing alcohol and used a DVD/CD cleaning disk and it didn't help. :( I need it for my daughter on a very long trip to Australia in Feb.

Your three yr old has not shut you down. Open the lid of the player and make sure that the lens still slides backward and forward. If this is so, get yourself a clean cotton swab dipped in either methylated spirits or rubbing alcohol, and thoroughly wipe lens in circular motions. Few seconds to dry and you should be ok.

DVD says loading but does not play

DO NOT GIVE UP ! keep reading old similar posts, where I found the following solution.

One old post talks about opening it up, removing the disc & sliding the arm containing the lens reader carefully back away from the centre ( where it is stuck - @ .25 inch worked for me ! ) and then re-starting....joy - o - joy !!!!

After loading a disc it says "no disc"

Clean the lens with a soft cotton cloth but be careful not to touch it with bare hands. Make sure the lens is not soiled with dust.
Note: if it says 'NO DISC" immediately after closing the tray, check capstan motor if spins smoothly. It is the one spinning the disc. Open the unit's casing to have a view of the disc when playing. If it doesn't spin, replace capstan motor.

I put an HD-DVD in my player but it keeps coming back out.

Temporarily you can hold the lid closed with your hand and press play and leave the lid after it loads the disc. But for permanent solutuion you will require to repair its lid switches,

"cannot play"

This is a failed optical lens assembly. the attached motor or lens have burned out. you will need to contact Sony for this repair. the actual part you will need are not available for consumer purchase.

Screen comes on, disk turns, loading starts, and doesnt stop

With the power turned off, open the DVD Player, and then open the top where you load the DVD into the player. Locate the laser lens and notice that the laser is attached to a transport assembly that moves the laser diagonally outward in a slot. 1. Slide this assembly outward to the end of its track. 2. Slide the assembly back inward to the closest inward position. 3. Repeat the process of sliding the assembly outward and then back inward.4. Put in a music CD and let it play all the way through. This helps to calibrate the laser head assembly movement. When the music CD is finished playing. 5. Put in a DVD, and you should have a working unit again This is a factory solution from Mintek that was given to a customer who ask for help with the forever loading disc problems. This solution may work on other models of portable DVD players. Most portable DVD players use this type of transport mechanism. Try this solution it might work for you.

Wrong disc

Laser lens may be dirty, try gently cleaning it with a cotton bud with a tiny drip of vodka on the end, i mean the tiniest bit. The lens is the small round, domed clear plastic thing in the player under the lid...if it is top loading. Are playing retail DVD's or any sort of disc you have created on a PC. A lot of players dont like RW-DVD disc's.

I have a Portble DVD player. Everytime that I put in a disk i get the same message. No Disk. I have hooked it up to the battery pack and also to the TV and I get the same message. What can I do to correct...

Mine was doing this also. In messing around with it, I found that if you open the lid and push the lid button (make the player think the lid is closed) so it will spin the disc with the lid open, I could hold the disc and prevent it from spinning. The red laser kept refocusing, and then shook like crazy! After shaking for about a second, I let it go and poof!, it started working again. Maybe a fluke, but I think when it shook it realigned the laser. My 2yr old drop this thing alot and I figured it was miss-aligned. Hope it helps someone.

3 yr Old CD Player not recognizing discs

Laser might not be faulty but just a dirty lens/ rail assembly.
If thou darest open the thing, clean the lens ( GENTLY) with a swab of glass lens cleaner. Clean the chrome runners for the optics assby with a swab lcaed with WD40 or silicone.
