UHF Tuner The TV had a bad H-Output transistor. After replacing it the TV functioned great receiving all channels perfectly, except the UHF channels are all off by 51 channels. Channel 20 comes in on channel 71, 24 on 75, 31 on 82, etc. I can't find anything causing the problem. No bad solder joints that I can find. Any Ideas?

Check the settings to see if it is locked on channel 3 for external tuner source to have an input from a cable box ant in that needs 3 to function or from some other externally decoded signal like a vcr. Does the TV have a Digital tuner or the old analog tuner? If it's digital you can hook up a rabbit ear antenna with the UHF output on it & should be able to tune in some stations. If it's the old style then you will need a converter box to get it to receive any stations. Fist check the settings to see if it has it set to lock on channel 3 for external tuner source.
see the b. diagram and test the power supply ;transistor, fuse, filter, switch, c.breaker rectifier,IC regulator voltage. measure the horizontal output =125vdc all other circuit:12vdc color:12vdc
TUNING
This DVD+VCR is equipped with a frequency synthe-
sized tuner capable of receiving up to 181 channels.
These include VHF channels 2-13, UHF channels
14-69 and CATV channels 1-125.
Auto Channel Programming
1. Choose the SOURCE SELECT option, then use
b / B to select TUNER.
Use b / B to switch among TUNER, LINE1, and LINE2.
2. Choose the AUTO CHANNEL SET option, then
use b / B to find channels.
• The tuner will automatically cycle through all available
channels (TV/CATV) in the area and place them in
the tuner's memory.
•After the AUTO CHANNEL SET is complete, the
TUNING menu will hide and return to the TV screen
automatically.
3. Make sure the TUNING BAND is set appropriately
(TV or CATV).
• TV : If you are using a standard antenna to receive
channels.
•CATV : If you are using basic cable to receive
channels.
It may be your amplifier protection circuitry is being activated and shutting down automatically. This is usually caused by a faulty output transistor in one or more of the channels. I recently repaired my Onkyo TX-SR500 which had this problem.
Using a multimeter on ohms check between C and E on each of the ten output transistors. I found Q6051 and Q6061 to be short cct on all pins. Once you have located the faulty channels check the adjacent components for open or short cct.
I replaced the following components,
Q6051 (2SD1047)
Q6061 (2SB817)
R6091 (2.2ohm fusible)
R6081 (2.2ohm fusible)
R6101 2x 0.22ohm 2W
Q6031 (2SD2061)
The amplifier now works perfectly, cost of the parts is about $15-$20.
If you don't feel confident doing this yourself just find a friend or tech who can do it for you.
That works great except I can get the tuner to program any channels above channel47. Is this a limitation of this older model TV
yes there is limitation in old tv.
is there some setting I can change in order to get more channels using the tv tuner?
in INDIA what we do is put a remote control ckt which gives us about 250 channels.
of course we replace tuner also called hyper tuner along with remote ckt or replace whole kit which are cheaply available.& serves the purpose.
hope this will help
Depending on the chassis, it could be the OBT has a bad componet or a parts bad in it or if theres a standup tuner it has to be replaced. You should take the set into a repair place for an estimate good Luck
