This computer requires that memory be installed in pairs. You probably have 2 512k ram modules in there now. Put an additional matching modules in the 2 remaining slots.

crucial.com is a very helpful site for memory compatibility and installation issues.

HI 1008 ,
It is very important to know which branded machine you have ; whether it's Dell , HP etc. I would also require to know the model number and whether you have a Desktop machine or a Notebook.

Anyways , here's a generic guide for your help...

Goodluck :-)

OOPS.... my bad.... I checked it later.... you have a Aspire T180 PC Desktop.

    Things You’ll Need:

        A small flat-head screwdriver

The correct memory card update for your computer.

    Step1
Turn off the computer and remove all cords

    Step2

    Find memory panel

Turn the computer in a lateral position. locate the panel which allows you to
access the RAM modules(PLEASE NOTE.... INSTALL THE 2ND 1 GB RAM IN THE SAME COLORED SLOT AS THE DEFAULT MEMORY IS INSTALLED),

    Step 3

Static electricity can kill computer parts so before touching anything
inside the computer you should ground yourself by touching something
metal such as a lamp or table leg.

    I

    Step 4

You may need to push hard as it can take 20 - 30 pounds of
    pressure to install.

Once the RAM has been pushed into the slot as far as it goes, gently push it down until the clips click into place

    Step5
When the memory panel is secured, flip the computer back up the right way, plug in the power cord and boot it up.

    Step6
If the laptop does boot up correctly, click on Start, Control Panel, System and Maintenance, System.

    Step 7

On the screen you will see how much ram is installed. It should be the updated amount of ram that you just put in.

    Step8
If your computer does not boot up, if you receive an error message or a
series of beeps then your COMPUTER may not have recognized the new
memory. Remove and reinstall the RAM to make sure that they are
    securely inserted into the slots.

    If
you get a memory mismatch error, follow the prompts and enter your
computers setup. Then select Save and Exit. This isn’t always an error,
a lot of laptops require this to install new RAM.

    When you start
the aspire you may get a message prompting you to update your
configuration settings. If you press F1 to continue and save, it will
    recognize your new ram.

Can I remove ram from acer aspire 3003wlci to add to toshiba satellite p205d-s7454. The acer is pc-2700 and Toshiba is Pc2-5300 200 pin DDR2. Is sticking a USB 1gb readyboost the same as installling 1gb?

To answer your question, no. Those RAM types are not compatible as they are a full generation apart in terms of a RAM lifecycle.
And to answer your question about Readyboost, no. Installing a 1gb flash drive to use with readyboost isn't the same as installing an extra 1gb of internal system memory. It essentially allows Windows to use the newly added flash drive as a system cache. See more information on Readyboost here.
Thanks, and have a great day!

Hi,
I belive the problem is caused due to non compatible memory being installed . According the Dell documentation the memory specification is as under

333- and 400-MHz DDR SDRAM
1Gb Non-ECC on each slot.

Just check the speed of the memory you are trying to connect.

My computer does not work with two 2GB RAMs

I think, one, out of the two is defected. Make pair with other memory or try changing the slots and vice versa. And for dual channel memory mode, you must installed two identical memory. I mean sizes and makes may different, but bandwidth should be identical to each other.

I want to increase th DDR in my emachines T2682. how much can i increase it and do i have to make any changes.?

Go to this trusted site I use all the time. http://www.crucial.com/store/drammemory.aspx Click "Scan My System" accept the download of the scanner. When it finishes it will tell you what you have and what you can add, with the cost of all options. They have good prices and are very safe & reliable. From your model # unless changes have been made you have 256MB of Ram which is far to little for XP to run like it should. This is the bare minimum for XP. Buy and install at least 1 GB of RAM. It is a simple process and you will have to make no changes to the system. Once you install the new RAM and turn the computer back on it will recognize the new memory. Follow the directions for installing the Ram and make sure to wear a ground strap or ground yourself to the exterior of the case before touching anything inside. Crucial has a section on installing RAM which you should look at if you have never done it before. Your XP will fly with 1 GB of ram and this is the best money you can spend to make it faster. I checked their site using the model # your listed and you are in luck. You can purchase 1 GB of RAM, which they have on sale, for $38.99. You have 2 slots in your computer and you will be able to leave the 256 MB intact and add the 1 GB giving you 5 times the Ram you now have. You can see the results here. http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=T2682&pl=eMachines&cat=RAM

The memory may not be compatible depending on the speed. Try taking out all the memory and just installing the 1Gig stick.. does it work?

If it does then the 1Gig stick is fine, but your PC probably doesn't like you mixing different types and speeds of memory.

If it doesn't work, the 1gig memory module might not be the correct speed your PC wants.

Having a problen installing 1gb ram. unit is 1gb ddr2 dimm 533mhz. computer turns on, shows that it has updated the memory, but does not boot

Hi,

if the computer states that the memory has been recognised. but fails to boot. it may not be compatable memory for your CPU/Processor. Or system bus. check your previous memory stick, to ensure it,s the same running speed 533mhz. Failing this if your computer does not support this.
check the manufacturers website, to see further details:- Maximum supported memory/Speed et,c.
Systems bios date, and whether an update is available. your only other alternative is to install 2 x 512mb sticks of Ram.

Won't Reboot after installing new RAM

If you remove the 1GB memory that you were trying to install and it will boot, then it is your new memory that is not compatible. Check here for what memory will be compatible with your laptop.
