Help with the deluxe motorola ic902 PLEASE

I just bought a used motorola ic902 off of ebay because my motorola i850 broke in half. i received the phone today, put my sim card in and it says " Insert correct SIM. SIM card does not match stored account information." i tried to call sprint and talk to someone there, but i keep getting hung up on and nobody knows how to help. i called a store and they said something like the phone will only work with its original sim card. i'm about ready to rip my hair out, im extremely frustrated. any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

WHEN CALLING SPRINTNEXTEL ASK FOR THE HYBRID DEPT, TELL THE REP TO UNMARRY THE OLD SIM CARD THAT WAS ATTACHED TO YOUR HYBRID PHONE AND MARRY THE NEW SIM CARD HOPEFULLY YOU GET A REP IN THE USA THAT KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING IF NOT HANG UP AND CALL AGAIN. IF THEY TELL YOU THAT YOU CAN NOT USE THE SIM CARD ITS A BUNCH OF BULL, HANG UP AND CALL AGAIN I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH SPRINT NEXTEL SINCE 1997 I KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT

"ic" series phones are "provisioned" in the words of the local Sprint/Nextel Store. They need to configure the new phone in their system. You can't just take a sim out of another phone (even and ic) and stick it into another ic phone.
I had an ic602 and bought a used ic902 and the sim from the ic602 wouldn't work in the ic902. Luckily the used ic902 came with a sim card. I activated the phone using the sim that came with the ic902, then copied my contacts from the ic602.
Bottom line is you need to go through Sprint/Nextel to activate an ic phone. I'm not sure if you can do it online or over the phone but it took the guy at the Sprint store a while to do it.

This Sprint Nextel Hybrid phone only uses a sim card to store contacts. It has to be activated by Sprint customer support. It does not work the same way as nextel phones, you cannot just swap your sim card into it. I had no problem getting mine activated, the sprint guy just asked me for the Imei number and the sim id and 2 hours later I was up and running.

I tried doing the same thing. I have an i850 which is dying a slow death and a friend loaned me his ic902. The Sim Card for the i850 is NOT compatible with the ic902. I was on the phone with the IDEN phone people at Nextel, spoke to a few others...bottom line is it aint gonna work. At least thats what numerous techie's at Nextel told me. Only thing to do is get a compatible Sim Card and get your old one transfered to it. If you go to a Nextel store, they charge you $15 for this. Blood suckers!!!!

I am running into the same issues.
I bought one NEW off ebay, and neither people at the sprint tech support, or nextell know how to activate this phone. I have been dealing with this for 2 weeks now. Nextell says it won't work with their service because it is a sprint phone, and sprint says they can't do anything with it because it is a nextel phone.

I had the same problem. I went to 2 different Sprint stores and has at least 4 calls into Customer Svc. Ultimately they told me the phone was broke but could not tell me any specifics. I finally went to a 3rd party NEXTEL/Sprint store who put in a NEW sim card and had the phone up and running in less than 30 mins. BTW there is no difference in the 128k black sim card from hybrid to regular phones, it just needs to be new. The sim part is SIMGUS103R; sim id ends in 330.

I activate phones for Boost Mobile.

I'm sorry to tell you, but an ic902 can never be unlocked to work properly on any other system - to include the Boost system. Here's why. The ic902 is a hybrid phone. That is, it uses two different cellular systems to operate. Specifically, voice calls on the ic902 are placed over the Sprint CDMA network and Push-to-Talk (PTT) calls are transmitted over Nextel's iDEN network.

Boost Mobile calling (both, voice and PTT) uses the iDEN network from Nextel. Thus, the ic902's radio transmitter (which is CDMA) cannot make calls on the Boost ( iDEN ) system.

Moreover, if you plan to use Boost Mobile, I STRONGLY suggest that you NOT purchase a Nextel phone and have it unlocked to use for Boost.

Although Nextel and Boost phones seem the same - they are not. If you look at the model number of Nextel phones most of them end in a zero. (ie., i850, i870 etc.) where Boost Mobile Phones end with the number five. (ie., i855, i875, etc.) This is because the transmitters in the phones are set to different frequencies for different purposes (like for texting.)

If you go to eBay for example, those who sell unlocked Nextel phones to use for Boost (if they're honest) will inform potential buyers in their eBay listings that their unlocked Nextel phone will not (text, for example) on the Boost network. These unlocked Nextel phones will have limitations when used on Boost.

To prevent problems down the road, ALWAYS purchase a Boost phone to use on the Boost network.
