Question about Leviton Manual-On Occupancy Sensor - IPP15-1LE - Black

We have an existing wall mounted occupancy sensor ON/ AUTO/OFF (2 wire with equipment grounding conductor.) Until now, the sensor has controlled two (2) incandescent medium base porcelain lamp holders (60W A19.) We changed the lampholders to two (2) fluorescent electronic ballasted fixtures (2-Lamp/ 17 Watt/ T8.) The lights come on and work fine on manual or automatic, when you put the occupancy sensor in the OFF position, or the AUTO times itself out, the fluorescent fixtures go off but strobe the lamps continuously (as if they are attempting to come on.)

This is not a surprise. Many wall-mounted devices such as occupancy sensors and dimmers operate by leaking a little bit of power through the light fixtures. In the world of incandescent, this was rarely a problem - that little bit of current wasn't enough to excite the bulb. But now that we're living in a world of low-wattage lamp types, that little bit of current is now enough power to excite the lamp and cause what you're seeing. The added detriment is that little bit of pulsing that you see in the CFL can actually wear it out pretty quickly.

The short-term solution is to use the older-style, incandescent lamps.
Another short-term solution would be to attempt using another manufacturer's CFL or try an LED lamp - that's by no stretch a guarantee, you'd be rolling the dice with each lamp choice you made. The higher wattage the lamps, the less likely you'll see an issue.

There are two long-term solutions:
1) Add another lamp - the more lamps the control sees, the less leakage current that goes through each lamp. Several people have solved this by adding a 'dummy' incandescent load (like a 15W or 25W lamp) somewhere in the lighting circuit to take the brunt of the leakage.
2) Change the wall-sensor. Lutron makes one (MS-OPS6M-DV-WH) that has extremely low leakage current and may solve the problem. But the best way to guarantee it won't be an issue is to use a wall-sensor that connects to the neutral wire in the wallbox. Those devices take that leakage current and dump it out the neural wire rather than run in through the light fixture. Lutron makes one of those as well (MS-OPS5AM-WH)

Wire occupancy sensor to control receptacle


Your description doesn't explain the circuit, the function of the wires or how the switch controls the outlet and whether the switch is a single pole or two-pole switch. Without such details it is difficult to visualise the circuit.

I advise before you go further to test the sensor in a known good and correctly wired outlet using a length of cable and a suitable plug for the outlet. It is possible the unit is faulty. If it functions correctly on test you will need to understand the circuit and the function of the wires before you rewire it to assure success.

Where is passenger side air bag relay 2007 MKZ


There is no relay for the passenger side air bag . What seams to be the trouble ? There is possibly a code set in the air bag control module .
Air Bag and Safety Belt Pretensioner Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) The air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) is designed to provide increased collision protection for front seat and second row outboard occupants, in addition to that provided by the 3-point safety belt system. Safety belt use is necessary to obtain the best occupant protection and to receive the full advantage of the SRS.
This vehicle line contains dual stage deployment (advanced restraint system) driver and front passenger air bag modules. These vehicles are also equipped with driver and front passenger safety belt retractor pretensioners. These vehicles can also be equipped with optional side air curtains that deploy from the A-pillar to the C-pillar upon a side impact. Vehicles with optional side air curtains are also equipped with seat side air bag modules in the front seats.
Side air curtains deploy from the headliner, protecting the first and second row outboard occupants during a side impact. Seat side air bag modules deploy from the outboard front seat backrest upon a side impact. In addition, a front impact severity sensor is mounted to the lower radiator support, a seat position sensor is mounted to the driver seat and a usage detection switch is added to the front driver and passenger outboard buckles. If equipped with optional side air curtain modules and seat side air bag modules, there are an additional 4 side impact sensors.
Vehicles are also equipped with an occupant classification sensor (OCS) system as part of the front passenger seat. The OCS system includes 2 OCS rails and an OCS module.
Passenger Air Bag Deactivation (PAD) Indicator
The passenger air bag deactivation (PAD) indicator is a visual indicator used to inform the front seat occupants of the passenger air bag deactivation state. The PAD indicator is a stand-alone lamp installed into the vehicle instrument panel in a position visible to each front seat occupant.
The restraints control module (RCM) controls the state of the PAD indicator through a direct hardwire connection, based on information provided by the occupant classification sensor (OCS) system. The PAD indicator is lit to indicate the passenger air bag module is disabled. An exemption to this is when the front passenger seat is determined to be empty and passenger safety belt buckle unbuckled, and therefore indication of a deactivated passenger air bag module is not necessary. In all other cases, the PAD indicator is unlit when the passenger air bag module is enabled.
When the ignition switch is in the ON position, the PAD indicator prove-out period is initiated by the RCM. The RCM briefly activates the PAD indicator to prove-out the indicator function and verify to the front occupants correct functional operation of the PAD indicator.
The PAD indicator will be lit/unlit within 1.0 to 1.5 seconds of a change of state from the OCS system.
When an OCS system fault is present, the RCM defaults the passenger air bag module to the last valid state received from the OCS system until the ignition switch is turned OFF. If the OCS system fault is still present when the ignition switch is turned ON, the RCM defaults the passenger air bag module to enabled regardless of the size of occupant in the front passenger seat. The PAD indicator will be unlit. For information on the OCS system, refer to Occupant Classification Sensor System in this section.
The following table indicates the passenger air bag status and the PAD indicator status based the size of the front outboard passenger occupant.

my best guess, is air bags (and ARE a danger to all mechanics that fail to read the FSM warnings, !!!)

the module is not communicating , due to power loss is the clue.

in case you dont know, error codes never tell you what part is bad

it at the least tells you what signal is dead, bad or a sensor not responding

what a tech,does, is do more test to ISOLATE the true cause.

If the vehicle is equipped with the Occupant Classification System (OCS), do not connect the battery negative cable before performing the OCS Verification Test using the scan tool and the appropriate diagnostic information. Personal injury or death may result if the system test is not performed properly.

Never replace both the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) and the Occupant Classification Module (OCM) at the same time. If both require replacement, replace one, then perform the Airbag System test before replacing the other.

Both the ORC and the OCM store Occupant Classification System (OCS) calibration data, which they transfer to one another when one of them is replaced. If both are replaced at the same time, an irreversible fault will be set in both modules and the OCS may malfunction and cause personal injury or death.

If equipped with OCS, the Seat Weight Sensor is a sensitive, calibrated unit and must be handled carefully. Do not drop or handle roughly. If dropped or damaged, replace with another sensor. Failure to do so may result in occupant injury or death.

If equipped with OCS, the front passenger seat must be handled carefully as well. When removing the seat, be careful when setting on floor not to drop. If dropped, the sensor may be inoperative, could result in occupant injury, or possibly death.

If equipped with OCS, when the passenger front seat is on the floor, no one should sit in the front passenger seat. This uneven force may damage the sensing ability of the seat weight sensors. If sat on and damaged, the sensor may be inoperative, could result in occupant injury, or possibly death.

I have a complete garage (sheetrock & wiring already installed). im trying to install a garage door opener. there are 3 wires on the garage ceiling (1 for the wall control, 2 for the photoeyes). but...


Get a continuity tester at Home depot. First, make sure all the conductor wires are separated from each other. Strip back a 1/2" insulation on each conductor (both ends).
Start with the wires at the wall control wire location. Twist the stripped
bare wires together. Now go on the ladder where the 3 cables are
and "ring" out that conductor with the continuity tester. Once that cable is found, tag the wire identifying it as the controller.

Having trouble adjusting settings


What kind of problem?

I have the delay adjustment set on "test". It comes on right away but turns off too soon. If the delay it turned to anything but "test", it will not come on immediately. Is this switch defective? I have another for another location but don't want to open the package until I know the answer to this question.

This device is made to replace single-pole switch.
Power to fan: note the horsepower range for device: for example if occupancy switch is rated 1/4 Hp, then it will work for ordinary bath fan. If device is rated for 1/3-1/2 Hp then it is rated for whole-house fan.
Each fan motor will have rating plate showing Hp. Check rating labels for each device.

How to wire


This should replace any existing single pole (one location) switch. You have two wires on the pir, black and blue and then the ground. The black hooks to the hot or common wire. It may be black, but it will be the hot wire. The blue wire hooks to the wire going to the light. The ground hooks to the green or bare.

I have a new chandelier with 9 12 volt halogen bulbs. I want to install an electronic dimmer switch for it. When purchasing the dimmer switch there are 4 wires included: ground, black, white and neutral....


First you must have a neutral wire in the switch box for this dimmer to work. A neutral wire (white) is a current carrying conductor. A ground wire is an equipment ground and does not normally carry current. You should never connect a device that requires a neutral to a grounding conductor.
The neutral wouldn't have to come from the light fixture as long as it's on the same circuit. Another note is to check your light fixture, and be sure dimming is ok. Another choice you could have is to install a remote dimming device. You would mount this in the fixture canopy, and then use a remote dimmer.

How would I install the Single pole Motion Sensoring switch


As with any single pole switch; in series.
With no exposed metal surfaces, swapping the 'hot' (black) and the white wires isn't dangerous and if the switch has no third screw for grounding, you can't make a mistake. The sensing circuit of the switch receives voltage from the voltage drop across the switch when off and probably has a small voltage drop when on.
If there is an additional screw visibly connected to a metal plate (possible 'heat sink') that is concealed when the switch is installed, that screw is intended to be connected to any ground wire or terminal in the wall box in which the switch is to be mounted. This may or may not be connected; it isn't important to the switch operation or hazardous to leave it unconnected.

The black and white in the fan box are the main power and neutral for normal (low speed) of the fan. The two reds are the signal wires. It is basically a switch loop. You will actually need a total of 4 conductors (plus a ground) in order to run the high and low speed of the fan. The four conductors consist of 1) power from one switch to power up the fan, 2) neutral, 3) signal going to second switch, 4) signal going back to fan from second switch in order to run high speed. Without four conductors you can still run the high speed only by tying the two red wires in the fan together. This would be like always having the second swith in the on position. Hope this helps.
