Hello, I bought the Cossacks Anthology Collectors Edition and installed the whole stuff (European, Art and Back), then I tried to run it but the first two exe files don't run (the win messages said dmcr problem), while the Back To War exe seemed to run but the screen image after the initial videos freezed like there was some problem with the video card... I have a nb intel core duo with a nvidia gt 320 1 gb.

SOURCE: I've installed Cossacks{the Art of War} in Windows

Right click on the program. Then navigate to compatibility, then select the compatibility operating system the game is supposed to be played under. Also, after you select xp sp3 or whatever you need go ahead and check the box that says "run as administrator." This will run the game under the proper drivers needed for that game to run properly.

I've installed Cossacks(the Art of War) in Windows 7 Professional. HP-Pavilion Slimline s5710F.The game come up with double vision still can't play, everythink runs together.

I think there is a form of copy protection that installs a driver onto your computer. It was originally designed to be used on Windows XP only. In order to fix this issue, you'll need to contact the game developer for an update or patch that allows you to install the game. There is no other work-around for this, because Starforce contains a driver that Vista will not accept because it is built for another operating system. Starforce protected games are well known to be one of very few XP titles that will not work on Vista without an update or patch, due to its design.

I dont know how to run cossacks eur. wars on win7....how?

Windows Vista or Windows 7, will have problems running some older versions of applications, just because so much has changed under the hood from Windows XP days. Thankfully there is a compatibility mode that can be easily set per application.

To configure the compatibility mode for an application, just locate the installation directory and right click on the .exe, selecting Properties from the menu. THEN select your compatibility tab, You can choose to run the program in Windows XP compatibility mode, or even all the way back to Windows 95 compatibility.

Probably the most useful setting to start off with would be to disable the visual themes and desktop composition, if you can't get things working. If you are trying to run a video game, you will often need to choose "Run this program as an administrator". You'll have to play around with it, but most likely you can get your application working this way. Also, you will be able to make a selection for windows VISTA which is backwards and forwards compatible with WINDOWS 7

I've installed Cossacks European Wars onto my laptop which has Windows 7. However, when I try to run the game I get a dmcr.exe error. I've looked at solutions online which told me to change 'Video' to...

1- download a direcx and install it (i put a link for you)

      http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/directx.html

      if it doesn't work:
1- go to control panel from start menu.
      2- select windows update.
      3- select check for updates.

Cossacks runs and comes up with a black screen nothing else and then i closes the black screen and says could not load missions text

Run the following script (.bat archive):
      taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
      C:
      cd \program files\cossacks
      dmcr.exe
      start explorer.exe

Save it as batch archive and good luck!!

      Windows 7 incompatibility

If you have Windows 7 Ultimate, it comes with a Windows XP mode that allows you to emulate windows xp. If you haven't already tried right clicking the exe or shortcut and clicking the compatibility tab and setting it to windows xp service pack 2 (not 3 for some strange reasons)
