Its either a bad defrost timer not kicking on, bad main control board or the temp switch. Sorry not much help but the only way to really tell is check with a ohlm meteor and eliminate each part.

In the freezer side there is a panel in the back. behind the panel are the evaporators. over the evaporators are heaters you will find one of then broken from water dropping on it the bottom one was broken on mine. put a fan to the freezer and thaw it out. get the model and serial numbers and look on ebay.com. or there is a place called http://www.repairclinic.com/
These are not hard to change but above all UNPLUG THE FRIG OR THEY MAY PUT YOU IN ONE.

Best way I can answer this is to purchase the right equipment for the job. A domestic freezer is not designed to work like that, although it may get there in temp it won't hold it. Recovery is slower then the industrial unit you seek. Domestic unit warranties are void if used for commercial settings (i.e. lunch rooms, offices, lab's, etc...) I wish I had a better answer for you but if you need a specific temperature get the correct equipment for the job. Good Luck

Hi! I am having this exact problem also. The best answer I have been able to discover is that it is related to the freezing up of the internal water tube that drains the fridge compartment into the freezer section. In addition, a pool of water freezes on the interior floor of my freezer and has to be manually chipped up and removed. I did try to unload the freezer and defrost it thoroughly, but it still happens and has to be chipped each week. I am still seeking a solution, but at least I can make the chiming stop by locking the temperature via the button on the front panel. Best wishes. If you discover a better or final soln, please post. Change the water control valve because it is not shutting off once the ice maker is full. The valve is sticking open slightly once power is off to water valve. What is the model number of your Kenmore Elite Model numbers for Kenmore most times look like this example=> 321.456789 Sea Breeze

the problem is that the compressor is not working
call a technician for a proper diagnosis
and it is not a pressure sound but a vacuum sound as the door when closed drops the temp inside the unit and that creates a vacuum making the door temporarily hard to open

The light indicates the need for a new battery (9V)
