Red lines faint red lines in a curve red shape sony kp51ws500

Confirm the actual model number as the one indicated in the title is not HD.

Some of these sets had bad picture tubes that on a black screen or blank video input may in your case show faint curved lines and or some color (red,green or blue) present in the background.

If this is the case there is a fairly simple way to attempt to adjust something for this--not in the customer menu but fairly easy to get at and try.


Most of these sets were KP51ws500, 57500 etc.

For this problem, what you have to do is here I found this solution: Right below your speakers on the right and left side are tabs. Pull out the tabs and remove the screw on eachside. Once that is done remove the speaker cover and you will see a fiber board cover in the middle of the tv, there will most likley be twist ties holding some wires, to make it easier to work remove the ties. Now remove the screws on the fiber board and pull it off. You should see 3 adjustments on the top for focus, do not touch those. Below the focus adjustments on the bottom is the blue, red, and green adjustments (they should be labeled). All you have to do is turn adjustment screw slightly to the left(or counter clockwise) and it should clear right up. That should do the trick, Hope this is helpful. Please dont forget your rating.

Adjust RED screen drive down, or disconnect,unplug CRT board from red tube turn set back on if it plays without shuting off RED tube is shorted or video IC on CRT board is bad.

Hi There!
This sounds like a typical problem related to a older CRT.
If you remove the front cover of the tv, you can then remove a wood panel. Behind this panel you will see a block (high voltage splitter) it will have 6 "knobs" on it, 3 will say focus, 3 will say screen.
They will also be labeled R - G - B  
Put the tv on a blank input so you can see the lines clearly on a black screen  - Find the knob for red, and SLIGHTLY turn it down until the red lines disappear. 

Is there a cheaper solution? $600 sounds like you just throw it away to me...

I got this TV for FREE from a guy posting it on craigslist because he saw "BLUE SWIRL LINES" also knows as "Retrace Line" on the screen and he went to several repair people and got high repair costs so he was giving it away for free, but i found a guide that tells you how to adjust the tv to make the blue or green or red lines go away, aparantly the line show up because the voltage on the color ray gun tubes that get out of adjustment. Check all six small,soldered in pico fuses under IC heatsinks..

Guys I did this myself real easy. Just don't turn the corresponding screw too far. Only need to adjust it until the lines go away. Do it on a darker screen so the lines are more visible. I did the red 2 years ago and the green 6months before that. The blue lines are coming on my screen now and I've fixed it in 10 minutes. The TV is amazing.
