Disconnect all speaker connections and rca cables. Leave power, ground and remote wires intact. Try turning on again. If you still have a protection light your amp is faulty. Hopefully you have warranty . A thumbs up would be greatly appreciated if this answer is helpful to you

Protect mode

I had this problem with protect mode for years, My last ditch attempt was to open up the unit get a artist's size paint brush and gently brush the circuit board and with methylated spirits. Then factory reset the unit. It has never gone into protect mode since.

Lightning Audio b2.3000.4 is in protect mode. i removed all speaks and conected the amp directly to the battery and it still stays in protect mode. what can i do to fix this problem?

  • Only a select few things can cause protect mode with the battery only connected.
  • An installation issue. Check the Power, Ground and Remote wires. Make sure non are shorting from one terminal to the other.
  • It is still overheated and has not had time to cool down from being in thermal protect mode.
  • The amp itself is touching metal. You always want something non conductive between the amp and where it is mounted, this includes the screws being used to anchor the amp. They should never touch the metal in the car either.
  • The final thing that can cause an amp to go into protect mode while only hooked to the battery is the amp itself is malfunctioning and or defective. You can try opening the amp and look for any black spots on the circuit board where an electrical component might have smoked up or blown and replace that part.

Protector light is on

Hello justin83wint,

If the amp goes into "protect mode" immediately upon power up, it's most likely a short in the power/ground or speaker connections. If it operates normally for awhile and then goes into protect, it's most likely overheating.

In the first case, I'd suspect something in the wiring. Go here to troubleshoot the possible causes.

An amp will most often go into protection from overheating due to being operated at too low of an impedance load. Check the speaker specifications and wiring and make sure that the final impedance load matches the amps rating.

Hope this helps.

Power light turns from green to red protect mode and then there is no sound coming from my speakers

there are 2 reasons for it to be going into protect mode 1 is heat 2 is the load on it. if it is going into protect mode soon after it starts there is a problem with the speaker. if it is after it has been on for a while it is that the amp itself is overheating. hope this answers your question

Sony xplod amp(XM-1652Z ) power/protect light

if your amp is overheating your sub is needing to much power that the amp doesnt have.
if its cutting out and the red light comes on you need to check the wiring. nothing not even the tinyest speaker wires can be touching.
proper wiring would be your best bet.
but i would upgrade amps.
cheap bang isnt reliable.

Auto protect

that is actually a sign that the reciever is bad. it usually means the amp is blown. Not in the sense that it wont work. But its overheating and thats where the problem lies. for this recieve it only costs 130 for the pcb board that goes bad. I know no one likes to hear that there stuff is broken. But when i worked for Square Trade i seen a few dozen of these units come through and it was always the amp which can still be serviced by yamaha. -Thanks Nate

OVERHEAT PROTECTION

The thermal protection would have reset when the amp cooled down. When cool, if it still goes into protection when it powers up, there are likely blown output transistors. To be sure it's not a wiring problem, disconnect the speaker wires 'from the terminal block of the amp' and disconnect the RCA cables from it. If it still goes into protection, the output transistors are almost certainly shorted.
