Toshiba 36a42 picture problem

Turn the unit on and the picture is too big for the screen. Acting as if picture is being zoomed-in on. my Toshiba CN3081B Cinema Series also looks like the picture is zoomed in on. I've searched for a manual and can't find one. Running through the menus offers no help.

You should check your remote for an "aspect" or "picture" button to see if you can change the format of the screen. You might be on zoom, change it to 16:9 or full screen.

Let me know if you are still experiencing this issue after doing this

Will the Toshiba Model 36A42 work without a converter box?

The short answer is no. The reason for that is because it's an analog TV and has a standard tuner which is now obsolete because of the changes to all digital programming last year. You won't be able to use it with out a converter box. I won't recommend a particular brand or model, that would be your choice. Here is a selection of "boxes" available.

Too much red in picture unable to get it out

The most common cause is the emission of the CRT electron guns are decreasing. They are going out of range and of proper balance in relation to each other for the AKG (Automatic Cathode [K] Gain) circuits in the CRT drive circuits to compensate for proper colour balance and colour tracking.

A less frequent cause are components going defective in the CRT bias and drive circuits.

I would be considering a new TV set with this type of fault condition. The cost of servicing this would be expensive.

Toshiba no video sound is fine

If you can see the menus this means the CRT, high voltage, scan amplifiiers, the output video processor, and CRT drive circuits are working. The fault is most likely in the video section of the input select circuits.

Maybe the Toshiba parts department can supply a service manual for your set. With a signal source, a scope, and a DVM, an experienced technician can troubleshoot your set to locate where the failure is occuring.

I have not serviced this model, but in other models I have found the main input select IC to be defective. In some cases I also found a bad voltage regulator IC that supplies the input section has failed.

Toshiba 36A42 36'' T.V.

A common cause is a failure in the one of the scan amplifiers or on the high voltage section. It is also possible to have a power supply fault that will give this error message.

Toshiba 36A42 TV. Dim Picture

Check the "screen" control on the flyback (lower knob) its easy to hit moving a board around. Try to adjust back to its original setting. Look for where the dust is, it should be on top. Or any marks might help. Other wise adjust slowly, back off if any retrace lines appear, with user settings at there normal settings.
