Error 32 - Unsupported Print Cartridge - Replaced all 4 toner carts and stil getting the error. Could a bad (siezed up) toner cart have caused one (or more) of the rollers in the front cover to shift out of position? I have a service manual, but there is no discussion of what these 'rollers' in the front cover do, or how they communicate with the rest of the printer.

It's not reporting that a toner cart is 'not present' (it will do that if i take one out and power on the printer....so i know all of those sensors are working fine). The printer understands all carts are loaded, but for some reason, after changing cartridges to new ones - the machine says i have an unsupported cartridge. I've swapped each toner, one by one, with the old cartridge (that worked fine in the machine) and still get the error 32. Which means there isn't one individual cart that is causing the problem from what i can tell. I've dissasembled the front door and checked the electromagnet controllers, they seem fine. the gears all spin good with no gear tooth issues.

I simply think something got 'out of alignment' with the cams. do you know of any documentation on how they are supposed to be aligned?

It looks like having bad (refill??)cartridges. Try original ones. The rollers are there to push the cartridge forwart in the machine on a timed moment to transfer the toner to the belt.

Already replaced all 4 cartridges with OEM Lexmark units. I've even tried swapping back to the last set of cartridges one at a time to see if the error will clear - to no avail.

Try finding out if the rollers in the front cover rotate. If they do you should hear a klikking sound in the front cover. If not there is a problem in the mechanics of the frontcover.

I found the Lexmark checklist for you:

    Missing toner cartridge service check
    1 Remove toner cartridge in
    question. Holding toner
    cartridge with developer
    roller away from you, check
    toner present sensor
    actuators located on left
    rear of toner cartridge. Are
    actuators damaged?
    Replace toner
    cartridge.
    2 Insert toner cartridge and
    ensure toner present
    sensor flag moves forward.
    Remove toner cartridge.
    Toner present sensor flag
    should spring forward.
    Does toner present sensor
    flag operate correctly?
Go to step 3. Replace toner
    present sensor.
3 Turn printer off and remove
    I/O board shield. Is
    cable properly connected
    to I/O board connector
    DCN2?
Go to step 4. Properly connect
    cable.
    4 Reconnect operator panel.
    Turn printer on. Touch
    negative lead of voltmeter
    to metal bracket that holds
    I/O board to obtain ground.
    Touch positive lead to
    DCN2 pin 2 to ensure 5
    VDC is being supplied to
    toner present sensor. Is 5
    VDC present?
Go to step 5. Go to step 8.
    5 Check voltage level on
    DCN2 pin 1. Is 5 VDC
    present?
    Go to step 6.
    6 Push toner cartridge fully
    in. Check voltage level on
    DCN2 pin 1. Is 0 VDC
    present?
    Replace I/O
    board. If
    problem
    persists, replace
    engine controller
    board. See
    Replace toner
    present sensor.
    7 Turn printer off. Check
    cable for continuity that
    connects DCN2 pins 1, 2,
    and 3 to toner present
    sensor. Also check for
    shorted pins. Is cable
    okay?
    Replace toner
    present sensor.
    Replace cable.
    8 Touch positive lead to
    DCN13 pin 9 to ensure 5
VDC is being supplied to I/
O board. Also check pin 11
for 5 VDC. Is 5 VDC
    present?
    Replace I/O
    board. Go to step 9.
    9 Check cable continuity
    between LVPS ACN1 and I/
    O board DCN13. Also
    check for shorted pins. Is
    cable okay?
    Replace LVPS.

This is what I found at Lexmark service information.

If the printer thinks that a non-Lexmark cartridge is being used, the Operator Panel will post a “32 Unsupported Cartridge” error.
This occurs when the toner key sensor is not tripped by the cartridge key. The Operator Panel will post a “32 Unsupported Cartridge” error.

    Resolution:
A number of things can cause this error. The logical sequence for fixing this should be the following:

    • Correctly re-install the toner cartridges and be sure that they are Lexmark keyed.
    • Bend the tabs on the left side of the cartridge out slightly.
    • Check the left side of the front door for proper seating, if bent too far out the cams will not push the cartridges into the sensor.
    • Check the toner key sensor 12G7062 connection to the IOD1 connector DCN15. Re-seat the connector and replace sensor if necessary.
    • If all else checks OK, replace the toner key sensor. A common failure is the metal hinge will be bent as illustrated in the picture on the next page.

I cann not send you the picture this way. If you need it please send me your mail adress

IBM Infoprint1120 and Lexmark T520 toner cartridges.

You cannot use Lexmark toner cartridges in IBM models and vice-versa because the toner carts have a smartchip that identifies the toner to the printer. IBM printers expect to see IBM toners and Lexmark machines expect to see Lexmark toners. If you put the wrong cartridge in you will get '32' Unsupported print cartridge error.
Some refillers may swap the smartchip when they refill cartridges and this would be the only reason why you may have seen it done before.. IS your current toner a refilled one? It's technically possible to make an IBM printer into a Lexmark printer to accept Lexmark toners by replacing the System Board... but why would you bother doing that...just use the right toner.

Error code 14 "no tuner cart"

14 NO EP CART Message
The printer detects the presence of the Toner Cartridge and the
level of toner present in the cartridge through the condition of the
ANTIN signal. The ANTIN signal becomes part of the serial data
stream used to communicate with the DC Controller (see Figure
7-5 for cartridge components). Troubleshoot the 14 NO EP CART
(or INSTALL TONER CARTRIDGE) message as follows:
1 reseat the Toner Cartridge. Try a new or known good Toner
Cartridge.
2 Check the High Voltage Contacts for damage. If the contacts
are dirty or damaged, clean the contacts after the repair.
3 Replace the High Voltage Power Supply.
4 Check and reseat the HVPS cable.
5 Replace the DC Controller

32 UNsupported Print Cartridge

This error means the incorrect toner is installed. Most toners for similar printers will fit, but they have a chip on them to make it so it only works with certain models. Please make sure this is the right toner for the model printer. If it is and you still receive the error, you should try to return it to the place you purchased it from, as it is defective.

Inputting new ink cartridges

Error 1102 means cart error. Try cleaning the copper contacts on the cart and the contacts in the printer also. If still fails, then put old carts and check if u still get same error. If u dont get the error then there is a problem with the cart itself. But if you have bought a refilled cart then the print heads on the carts are bad. Needs replacement.
