Hi, all of a sudden my iP5200 has started to have problems printing out any kind of quality at all. The tanks are all relatively new, the head seems OK, the maintenance nozzle check prints all colors just fine, but when I try to print our even text files all I get is text in jittery blue , lines in grey, really wierd. If I print out the standard windows teest side Oi get a lovely four color windows logo and a few strips of black, but none of the rest. A few days ago I was able to print out high quality fotos! What could have happened? The maintenance mode head alignment throws an error after printing just a pair of blue and black blocks. If I try to print out an ascii text file it goes thru all the motions but nothing ends up on the paper.
I have already deinstalled & reinstalled all the drivers (v. 1.90b), reset all the settings to default etc.
Any help would be appreciated.
OK, problem solved. Complete deinstall of the old drivers (1.90b) and newe installation of the latest (2.0) drivers, plus intensive nozzle clean and Bob's your uncle. Seems like the text black cartridge or nozzle was not operating properly.
For anybody with color cast problems I can highly recommend getting a custom ICC profile made fopr your printer/ink/papaer combination - the results make the printer ina class of it's own. However you do need a software such as Photoshop (elements) which supports proper color management.
Sounds like your print head went bad. You will have to buy another one.
I did not notice that the printer was printing the standard test. If it is doing this, you are correct. The printer head is not bad.
You did not mention the ICC profiles in your first post. I think that it might not be accepting your ICC profiles. Have you tried to reset the profiles and then see if it prints properly? Some printers can not accept some profiles. What software are you using? The E-mail server has been down on the site and I did not get your reply. I ran across it checking my status.
Can you rate this solution again. Since I replied to you. The post is asking for another rating.

Thanx 4 the suggestion, but how can the print head be damaged if the nozzle check manages to print out the colors (all of them) just fine?
Anybody else out there who has an idea? I am not going to start replacing bits of the printer in the vague hope that it will help. The print head alone costs 2/3 the new price. New print head + new ink cartridges = 135% of new printer - duh? How stupid are we? Annoying that I just had some custom ICC profiles created for this printer.
See my note as "guest" (forgot to log in). ICC Profiles are fine if used with programs (in theis case Photoshop) which can handle them. With this printer the improvement in color rendition is enormous. No more magenta color cast, better grading etc. Particularly the reds and greens seem to profit most. Like I said - highly recommended.
