Hello, my Dell won't turn on. The green LEd on the Motherboard is on, but NOTHING happens when I hit the front panel power switch. I checked the switch with am ohm meter, but it is okay. The PC is just dead apart fro that litle green LED on the motherboard.
I have the E210882 MB in a dimension 3000. Recent electrical storm shut it down. Now power switch non-functional. First suspected PS. Replaced PS. Same - switch non-functional. Tested switch - OK. Shorted green to black on MB connector. Get power! Understand that the power is controlled from front panel switch through power control chip on MB??? Most likely suspect at this time. Wish I could find the schematics for the MB. Maybe a simple diode replacement vs. MB replacement. MB ~$195.00 from Dell! Maybe by-pass the power control chip? Any help is appreciated. Sounds like you need a new motherboard. Try to reset the bios with the jumper (or remove the battery and unplug it) and see if that does anything, if it doesn't start looking for a new mb.

I am assuming you are trying to power up an installed motherboard, based on the category selection. You say that you have power connected. That means that you have connected the 20 (24) pin main connector and the 4 or 8 pin CPU power connector to the motherboard. Have you connected the front panels controls to the motherboard header? There are connections for the power switch, power LED, HDD LED, reset switch (optional). They must be connected in order for the motherboard to start. THe HDD and Power LED connections are polarity-based, so if you hook them upo backwards, their respective LED will not light. The HDD LED plug is usually red and white with the red being on the positive (+) terminal. The Power LED plug is usually green and white with the green wire going to the positive terminal. The power switch and reset switch wires can be connected either way as they are not polarized.
Flashing front powerlight is often a result of a faulty powersupply, try another powersully on the pc and see if the problem gets solved. I've seen a few of these cases personally.
Green LED on back of power supply indicates it's getting power. That does not mean that it's distributing the power voltages to the computer. You could have a bad power supply or a bad motherboard. Just to make surethat nothing else is causing the problem, remove any PCI cards like modem, video card, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cablesto CD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.
The popping sound is most likely your power supply or something on your system-board like a capacitor. If the problem is only the power supply: If you want to see if you can salvage it try just replacing the power supply. The part is around forty dollars. You can google "Dell Dimension 3000 250w power supply" to find a deal on a power supply. Here is a link on how to replace the power supply in that computer. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim3000/en/SM/parts.htm#wp1075727
The green LED on the motherboard means the board is in "Stand by mode". This green LED uses 5V DC to light the LED. After replacing your PS back into your system it may function just fine.
