You can connect it to any one of the input sources on the receiver. It doesn't have to be AUX. For example, you can hook it up to the CD input (#5 below).
The Ipod can be on any input that you have available, just make sure the receiver is set to that input on the front to correspond with whichever one you decide to use. If you have no available inputs to use, go to RadioShack, you will be surprised at the little connectors they have to allow you to split inputs and outputs to use two devices, etc. very inexpensively.
An alternative, disconnect one device to hook up the Ipod to that input when needed.
