Screen turns on for a slight second perfect image then goes blank, if i pull power out and back in as soon as its got power it does it again, perfect image then blank, although the screen's light is green. I can press the power button off and then off and again it starts then cuts out... 1 screen same problem on 3 pc's. Cause of issue was when i plugged in my TV to the S-Video and it was turning on and then my screen cut out and has been doing what i noted above since, I think it must be in a perminant sleep mode or somthing since ive never had a problem with the monitor before hand

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Vc6 luna, A visit to YOUTUBE should help you understand how you will investigate and possibly repair your very old E173FP display. The Switch mode power supply will be first thing to visually inspect for "bad" capacitors. If still require assistance, then return to fixya and read and follow link in the fixya profiles of "budmrtn" "12fixlouie" and leave additional info for us to read in a comment to this response. 12fixlouie

My monitor only comes on for a few seconds and then goes very very dark, although the content is still there somewhere. But here's where I differ from the majority, if I can get to run System restore, the...

You need to verify if it's the monitor or computer--if possible, change out the monitor with a known-good one and see if the problem still exists. If it does, then it's a problem with the video card or driver software--if it doesn't and the monitor is an LCD display, then you probably have a failing power supply or display. In an LCD monitor, there are thin, bright fluorescent tubes which give back lighting to your image. A classic symptom of the screen going dark(with the image still visible using a bright flashlight), is the power supply that feeds the tubes or the tubes themselves. If the display is not under warranty, keep "new monitor" in the back of your mind because the cost of getting the unit fixed(if it can be done) rivals the price of a new one.--Hope I was of assistance--Rick

Monitor image comes up, then blacks out, power still on

Hello David,

This is very common problem and is heat/age related, but It can happen to monitors that are no more than a year old. It is usually bad capacitors on on power inverter board. I just fixed two monitors with this problem. This problem is common across all brands. Look for several radial capacitors in a cluster on the power inverter board. If some are bulging or have a slightly domed top, they are the ones that are bad. I usually replace all the capacitors in this small cluster because some may be marginal. This is easy to do if you have a bit of electronics skill.

When i turn my CRT on, after a few seconds my screen goes blank, then displays again, while this thing is happening, i can hear something switching... power led is on(green)... even when the display goes...

It sounds to me that the monitors power supply is dying. I would replace it with a different monitor as soon as possible. I would consider this a dangerous situation, and a possible fire hazard.

Thanks for using FixYa,

Hope this helps,

Monitor displays breifly then goes to blank screen

The power -inverter board probably needs an overhaul.
I redo many of these.
If the screen was pinkish or flickering before it finally got to this point, it is possible that a bulb has gone bad.

We just set up our 37 in sharp and get no picture

If this is a new set, return it for an exchange. This one sounds like an LCD set which uses a "back light". This back light is not working. This is a warranty repair or exchange.

Good picture for 30 seconds then screen goes black with a faint ghost of the image

the 12V is for speakers.. the 245bw takes regular 120V AC (same cord as your computer)

the buzzing is annoying, though. i don't know if it's a "feature" or just a side effect.. ie, if i could take the case off and poke around, i would. 4 times out of 5 it's some dumb piece of tin reverberating from a transformer or something..
