Mold has collected around the drum seal. When I wash whites and use bleach it helps but the mold comes back. This is the worst washer I have ever owned. Water collects in the seal. I should not have to dry the seal after use. This is a design problem in my opinion.

There is some maintenance that goes along with the unit. Leaving the door open and drying the gasket. Make sure you are using a HE branded detergent and don't use too much fabric softener. If you use affresh, www.affresh.com . it will help the maintain the unit as well.
Lg does have a service bulletin out now that will help with this. The front of the tub has to be changed, the gasket and the bottom counter weight. The new gasket will have a drain hose
go to this link, http://aic.lgservice.com/gcsc/svb/main?tc=SvbPrintCmd&DOC_ID=KRSVB000051409
go down and you will see a file ending in .ppt it is a powerpoint file and it will have the part numbers pictures etc.

How do you get rid of mold smell in washing machine

Hello friend, thanks for your post!

I understand that you have a mold smell developing inside of your Frigidaire washer. I would normally recommend using a clean wash cycle with either one cup of bleach or one pouch of Tide Washing Machine Cleaner. If you do not have a clean wash cycle on your washer you could also use hot water and a regular cycle with a cup of bleach to clean out your washer.

You should also check over your gasket to assure there is no mold buildup, if you do locate mold inside of your gasket you can use bleach to help get rid of any residue. I hope this information is helpful. -Matt

My washer has mold in the drum. how do i get it out

My washer had the same problem a few years ago. The thing that worked best for me was an empty bleached wash. I put the setting on large load and heavy spin. I added bleach like I would with a white load and let it do its thing.

My machine has a funny smell and mould seems to be collecting round the drum behind the rubber seal. What is the cure?

Bleach kills is a very effective mold spore killer. For killing mold you need a strong solution.

  1. The ratio is 1cup of bleach for every 10cups water. If you don't mix it like this it will not be as effective.
  2. You will run your washer on a max load with hot water (no clothes in the washer for this) and let it fully cycle through.
  3. This is gonna be real fumey so make sure you are ventilating things real good. Maybe do this during the day when the windows can be opened wide open.
  4. Bleach also stains so wear clothes that can be ruined.
  5. Wear eye ware and protective gloves.
  6. After the washer cycles all the way through run it though a rinse cycle to make sure all the bleach and mold has been removed.
  7. This will kill that mold dead.

How do i remove black mold on gasket

Hi
Try using bleach with hot water, run a cycle with hot water and bleach. Or spray bleach +water mixture on the seal. Run a cleaning cycle with hot water and bleach or vinegar at least once a month to reduce the growth of mold in other parts of the washer. You can also try using 1/2 a cup of Washing Soda or 4 cups of baking soda Crystals and run the machine with no clothes in it. This would remove all the debris, lint & mold growth from the drain pump and drain filter. This would clean the mold from the door seal as well.
Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

Mold found in washer

where ever there was moisture run washer for white wash hot/hot with bleach full load or if u have sanitary cycle this should get any mold or algae under drum and entry to pump with front loads its recommended to either wipe excess moisture off seal and or-- leave door open for a few hrs to let seal dry (not advisably with little ones around)--

I have mold growing where the rubber seal is around the door. I have a ine year old and I am worried about washing his clothing.

A nicely moist area,
...could try to kill all the mold with dilute chlorox (put some in a spray bottle--can also use on feet after the gym to prevent contamination from athlete's foot/feet)(or the shower mold killers which usually just have chlorox [sodium hypochlorite or similar]); then in future leave the door ajar when not in use so the area can dry (assume front loading), and if it is the large gasket style that still leaves a moist area behind itself--could put a wedge like a popcicle stick or few to allow air behind the gasket.
...any mold that is visible and therefor in contact with the clothes going in and out, should be easily removed...there should not be any mold in the washing compartment as the bleach and hot water used for whites would always kill the mold; so the only contact point is at the exterior (cleanable) when removing finished clothes.
..likely there is plenty of mold exposure in his environment beyond this----this is nothing like the problem with flood contaminated walls/floors and unseen mold that could spew forth significant amounts of spore load.

Mold & Smelly in Washer

Shepherd, Finkelman, Miller & Shah, LLC, is currently investigating defects and other problems in certain front-loading washing machines manufactured and/or sold by Whirlpool, Kenmore, and LG Electronics, including Kenmore Elite HE3 front load washers, Whirlpool Duet front load washers and LG Tromm, LG XL and other LG model front load washers, which result in the growth of mold/mildew in the machines and which can cause the staining of clothes and other problems.

On August 29, 2007, SFMS filed a Complaint against Sears Holding Corp. involving its Kenmore HE, HE2, HE3, HE4, HE5 and other front-loading automatic washers. If you own a front-loading washing machine that is manufactured by any of the above-mentioned companies and are experiencing the growth of mold/mildew in the machine, visit the following website: www.frontloadwasherclassaction.com
