Problem :
Vertical black lines

Cause: Contaminated fuser entrance guide Solution: Clean the guide

Cause: Defective toner cartridge. Solution: Replace the toner cartridge. ( By far the most common cause)

Cause: A "video line" generated by a defective formatter.
Solution: Replace formatter

Cause: Worn fuser film. Solution: Set the fuser to a lower temperature mode. Replace the fuser. Note To prevent the print-quality problem, reduce printing on large volumes of narrow media, such as envelopes. Instead, alternate smaller volumes of narrow media with full-page printing jobs.

Hope this helps.
Good Luck

A Solid black line down the left side of the page

It could be 2 things...

1. Your scanner glass is dirty...open the doc feeder and clean the glass. probably Wite-Out.

2. A segment of your scanner assembly lamp is burned out. Not good, uneconomical to repair.

Toshiba Plain Paper Fax DP120F we have power ..

There should be an On / Off switch either on one of the sides (down low) or on the rear. Especially if someone moved the fax recently, it is easily turned off, without knowing that. Let me know.

The machine will fax manually but will not dial the number on mem

With the little information, excluding make or model or mode of fax machine, whether feed through or flat scanning ( I even have one that does BOTH, and scans on a flat bed with a multi sheet feeder) I can only guess that somehow your memory is compromised.

Try this, in case you haven't already done so.

Set up the machine to fax a document over a short time period, like 10 minutes or so, from the time the trial begins and listen for the tones or pulses, and if there are none as you suggest, try thoroughly downing the machine for an hour or more, and reconfigure upon restart, as to date, time, fax mode, and so forth [the latter brings to mind the fact that your mode may be set to "manual," which would also account for your problem] and see if such a memory flush clears the memory, so that it can handle new commands.

Remember, before you start to check the present mode of the machine to determine whether it is set to MANUAL.

Manual mode will cause most machines to ignore commands like telephone numbers or future fax commands.

Black stripe down one side of every fax

On my Brother fax machine, there is a blue plastic cleaning thingy on the toner cartridge used to clean the metalic wire. If you leave it on the wrong side after cleaning, you get a thin black strip down the edge of every page. Slide it over to the other side and problem goes away.
