Hello. I need a battery charger for a Rascal 325. This is the second one. It is not an OEM but a Prism GHC-244000IL-EMI 24V Model AE244000. They tell me at my scooter repair store that the OEM costs over $200. I know this charger would be a lot less ...... if I could find one or something similar. I have looked online for some time but all I could find were XLR models. Do you folks know where this item could be purchased? Thanks for your help

Any 4 amp charger you can find will work to charge your batteries. Preferably find one that has an on/off switch on the charger. You should be able to find one on ebay a lot less than what the scooter repair store quoted you Check around your neighborhood someone might have a second charger that they are not using. Since Medicare will pay for a new chair every 5 years someone might have a extra charger laying around. Hope this helps you

This on-board charger is like the OEM and has two extra wires coming from the charger that go to the amp gauge built into the scooter so you can see when the batteries are charged. I know that any charger can charge the batteries but I'm looking for one that will exactly substitute for the OEM or find a cheaper source for the OEM..

How do I check the battery charger to see if it is functioning properly

Some chargers need to be connected to the batteries before they turn on the charge current. With the charger connected and switched on, check the voltage across the batteries and should be about 26 volts for a 24 volt system. And you can use an amp clamp meter for current flow.

HELP ! My Rascal joystick has option to raise & lower height of chair; I raised it to get in my freezer and now it will not lower. When it is in the RAISED position, the speed is less than a ONE a

This device either is hydraulically operated or operates use a motor and jacking screw, which is much more common. Take the seat off the jacking post. Put a piece of wood on the top where the seat was mounted. It should make the same kind of motor noise going down as it makes going up. If it never made noise going down it probably because its a hydraulic system so the down button activates a valve opening a hydraulic line allowing fluid to flow out of the chamber holding the piston up that your chair is mounted on. If it did make the same kind of noise going down, its a screw jack type mechanism. In either case hit the top of the wood once with moderate force. I like using a 5 pound hammer. I call it my master calibration tool. Make sure you strike the top of the wood piece straight down in order to avoid bending things. Try operating it now sometimes things get stuck when moved to their limit. So push the reverse button, then tap the piston down. You can check to see it the motor is getting voltage you will need a 24v circuit tester

I have a 1992 Rascal, Model 240. The charger assembly has a burnt mark on it. Is there a schematic or picture of the board that I can get? My brother may be able to fix it, but he can't identif

The charger is a 24v 4 amp one stage device. Its an incredibly cheap charger. It consists of a step down transformer, a bridge rectifier, a filer capacitor, and a voltage regulator. Virtually all chargers are made this way. Generic schematics

This charger is built around the famous an popular LM317 chip it really simplifies things.

http://www.circuitstoday.com/24v-lead-acid-battery-charger-circu

I would get out my trusty multimeter and chase 24v though the device.

You may need a VOM meter only $9
http://www.amazon.com/Mastech-YG188-Pocket-size-analog-multimeter/dp/B00064CH6A/ref=sr_1_8?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1339024102&sr=1-8

Set the meter to read VAC, you should get 30VAC out of the transformer. Next check the rectifier section, Set the meter to read VDC, the output should be about 29VDC. There is a fuse in there that you can check out. Then there is the regulator, if any part of that is fried, you're going to have a hard time finding parts. i really miss the 60's when there were electronic stores on every corner. There used to be a time when you could order your your TV as a kit. You could literally teach your kids something useful at the kitchen table. Quite frankly a 2 amp charger cost $14 4 amp cost $28. Not worth fixing really.

I needto replace the battery charger on my Rascal 600F scooter

Hi. Most chargers with only two wires, have a small bridge wire from the
black ( negative ) wire to the middle terminal of the connector. This disables the controller while the machine is charging. The charger will still work without this bridge wire, but the scooter will still operate normally.
There are a few different chargers around that have an internal relay that disables the scooter, but these chargers are normally "on-board" chargers.
Good luck. Neil.
