How to skip answering machine's outgoing message

A caller recently discovered that a certain phone key combo forces my answering machine to skip over the outgoing message and immediately start recording, but he promptly forgot which keys.

As I routinely screen calls, I'd like certain clients to use this procedure to circumvent the redundant message. The manual was misplaced many years and moves ago.

Ideas?

That wasn't a "generic" problem, I entered the model in the space provided but it wasn't appended to my message.

the outgoing message is still on the machine and all the incoming messages have been cleared. When someone call our phone, it doesn't record the message- it says the mailbox is full.

Remote access for machine

This come from a previous model than I have (mine is a ol5870), but seems to work for this one in retrieving messages from another phone.

Default access code is 0000 if you haven't changed it (but you should); when answering machine answer dial in the 4 digit code while the outgoing message is playing.

Once in dial 1,2, or 3 to play messages (mail box number I believe)

You can dial * for a help menu

4 Repeat a message
44 Ignores a message (message won't remote retrieve next call)
6 plays next message (skip to next)
7 Deletes message
8 Lets you record a memo
9 Let's you change the outgoing message (5 stops the recording)
0 Toggles answer on/off

I hope this helps some people at least in part.

I just bought a Radio Shack 43-3829 telephone answering machine. What does a caller need to do to send a message to a specific mail box? Right now all messages are going to the general mail box.

To put the message in a specific mail box, the caller needs to press *1, *2 or *3 (touch tone phone) before leaving their message. (Of course the answering system has to pick up before the key stroke.) Obviously the number corresponds to the mail box that will get the message.

So if you want to include these directions in your outgoing message, you would need to add something like "To leave a message for John press Star 1, for Sam press Star 2" when you record the ogm.

The manual for the answering system is available from Radio Shack. See http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2257360#tabsetBasic . The direct link to the English version of the manual is http://www.radioshack.com/graphics/uc/rsk/Support/ProductManuals/4303829_PM_EN.pdf .

I hope this helps.

Cannot figure out to set answering machine on my vtech, I recevied as gift.

Turn on the answering machine by pressing the on/off button on the base. Set the time and date by pressing the Time/Set button (to the right of the menu button) and pressing Change until the correct day or time is heard. Then press Time/Set again.

To record a message, press Menu until you hear "Set Outgoing Message", then press Record and speak the message (include the mailbox info if you are using them). Press any Play/Stop button to end the message.

Set the various features by pressing Menu to access each one, then press Change to change the setting. Press Time/Set to lock in the change and press Menu to change the next feature. Press a Play/Stop key to leave the menu.

The most important one is "Set Announce Only" to Off for callers to leave a message.

All messages will go into Mailbox 1 unless the caller indicates a different mailbox. Press the Mailbox button to hear new messages if the mailbox has a mix of new and old messages. Press the button a second time to hear all messages. Skip/Quick lets you advance to the next message and Repeat/Slow will let you hear a message again.

Press Vol (up) to adjust the base speaker volume higher during playback.

In the menu, the first option lets you set the two digit security code to access the messages when you call in from another phone. When calling press # followed by 1, 2, or 3 to access the desired mailbox. Press #4 to repeat a message. #5 to skip. Press *0 to end the remote call.

For the full manual, see: http://www.vtechphones.com/vtechphones/index.cfm/support/manuals/ and scroll down to 5866.

I hope this helps.

(all this assumes the base is on (connected to power) and connected to a good phone line. Without power it will not work at all. I test phone lines for dial tone with an old corded phone.)

I need to change the message and do not remember how on my Lucent Tech. 1710 machine. How do I do it?

Hi you can try these steps: An answering machine is a device which will answer the phone on your behalf after a certain number of rings. It will play a recorded message for your callers before it is ready to record their message. You can use the manufacturer's preset automated message or you can change it by recording your own outgoing message.

  • Compose your message ahead of time. If not, you may end up stumbling, looking for the right words while you are recording your message or leaving out some important details. Composing your message before you begin recording will save you from having to record several messages before you find one with which you are satisfied.
  • Step 2Make it easy for your callers to listen your message. Record your message in a relatively quiet room without background noise. Speak loudly and clearly. For the benefit of callers who don't have much time, make your message as brief and to the point as possible.

I wish to create my own message on the answer-phone.

    Hi,

The easiest way to gain access into an answering machine is to use it's preset access code. This is the access code set at default by the vendor on the given device. The best thing about this is that most users don't bother to change the access code to their device, if they even know that they have such a feature. Even worse yet, some of the manuals given for the device by it's vendor even tells the user that changing the access code is optional, not necessary. So of course since most people only do what they feel is necessary, these access codes are many times if not usually set at default. So what I'm going to do for you now is list the different popular vendors out there, and include their preset access codes, how to use them, and controls to use after gaining access. Keep in mind that if there is no model number beside the vendor, then that means that the information given works on most of their models. Likewise of course if there is a model identification beside the vendor name (placed in parenthesis) then that of course means that the information provided is model dependant. So let's begin, shall we?

    1) AT&T - preset access code is 10 - when the answering machine picks up punch in the access code
    7 - play messages
    6 - play new messages
    # - stop/pause
    2 - repeat message
    5 - skip message
4* - record announcement (push # to end recording)
    41 - play announcement
    * - record memo
    33 - delete all messages
    3 - delete selected
    0 - turn system on
    88 - turn system off
    99 - change remote code

    2) BellSouth - preset access code is 555, Mailbox 1: 555, 2: 666, 3: 777, 4: 888 - when the machine picks up hit * and then punch in the access code
0 - help (use this to get the commands available)

    3) Freestyle - preset access code is 000 - when the machine picks up push in the D button and then punch in the access code
    2 - play all messages
    3 - play new messages
4 - skip back during messages
    5 - delete during messages
6 - skip forward during messages
    8 - play outgoing message
9 - record new outgoing message
    0 - set answering machine on/off
    1 - hear main menu

    4) Vtech (VT650) - preset access code is 0000 - enter access code during announcement
    #4 - repeat message
    #5 - pause message
#6 - skip to next message
    #7 - delete message
    #8 - skip backwards
    #9 - stop/exit any function
    *8 - room monitor

    5) Vtech (VT2650/VT2468) - preset access code is 50 - enter access code during announcement
    #4 - repeat message
    #6 - skips message
    #5 - stops
    #9 - delete message
#7 - review announcement (after beep press 7 to record an announcement and use #5 to stop)

    6) Vtech (HK5886) - preset access code is 48 - enter access code during announcement
#1,2,3 - play new or old messages
    #4 - repeat message
    #6 - skip message
    #5 - stop
    #9 - delete message
#7 - review announcement (after beep press 7 to record an announcement and use #5 to stop)

    7) Olympia (OL2410) - preset access code is 0000 - enter access code during accouncement
1,2,3 - select and play messages
    4 - repeat message
    44 - ignore message
    6 - play next message
    7 - delete current message
    8 - record memo
    9 - record announce (5 to stop)
    0 - toggle answer on/off
    * - play help menu

    8) Doro - preset access code is 321 - enter access code right after outgoing message has played (or during)
    1 - repeat/skip to previous message
    2 - play/pause message
3 - skip to next message
4 - play current outgoing message
5 - record new outgoing message
    6 - stop
    7 - erase current message
8 - switch off answering machine
9 - switch on answering machine/select outgoing message
0 - (after playback) erases all messages
    # - end playback
    ## - end call

    9) Virgin Pulse cordless phone - preset access code is 123 - enter access code during outgoing message
    1 - review current message
2 - skip to next message
3 - erase the current message
4 - play all or new messages
    7 - repeat voice menu
    0 - turn on/off TAD

    10) Panasonic - preset access code is 11 or 1111 - enter access code during outgoing message
    4 - new message playback
    5 - all message playback
    1 - repeat
    2 - skip
    9 - stop
7 - record new announcement (use 9 to end recording)

There are also a few random vendors that don't automatically preset an access code on the machine, forcing it's user to set one up him/herself. This is a small step forward as far as security is concerned, but every vendor I saw that did this still used a mere 2-digit access code. To test and see if your target has this type of setup press # when the machine start, and then press 0. If the machine returns to the annoucement then you know this is the kind of machine it is. Of course, in reality, this isn't all that bad of a scheme since you have 100 different combinations available for the access code. However, most users simply set these access codes as 11, 22, 69, etc. So yeah, just try it out. If it disconnects you after so many tries, call back from another payphone (which you should be using in this case).

    Thanks for contacting Fixya

I can not get my phone to pick up on the answering system when a caller is trying to leave a message

Try looking underneath the console of the answering machine. You must turn the answerer on on most machines and underneath there may be a switch to determine how many rings before it picks up as well.
