Question about Fisher Price Geotrax Remote Control Timbertown Railway Train Set

5 Answers

GEOTRAX REMOTES ARE NOTE COMMUNICATING WITH TRAIN ENGINES. SET HAS BEEN IN STORAGE FOR A YEAR. WE SET UP AND CHANGED ALL BATTERIES, HOWEVER, REMOTE DOES NOT MAKE THE ENGINES MOVE. REMOTE DOCKING STATION MAKES NOISES AS THEY SHOULD AND TRAIN ENGINES HAVE LIGHTS ON, TRAINS DO NOT MOVE. NOT SURE WHAT TO DO. TRIED ALL LOGICAL SOLUTIONS.

I had the same problem with two of our three engines. I read somewhere that you can get them running by hitting the side of the engine against a hard surface. I can't believe it... IT WORKED! I guess the motor gets stuck and hitting it will get it going. All three engines are working now.

Aha! I found this on another forum and it worked for me hitting the train did not work for me!

*I had some luck using a trick I read on the yahoo geotrax group.
Make sure you have good batteries and hold the controller in the forward movement position. Then run the train forward repeatedly on a surface with friction (I used my pant leg). I got two old trains to work again, and I'm hoping to fix one more.
The theory is that this works because it uses a magnetic coupling instead of a direct drive.*

It only took me one super gentle swipe across my leg! Better than smacking/bashing them because that can knock wires loose and stuff. Hope this helps everyone! :D

We had 2 Geotrax engines that were not communicating with the remote control. They had been in storage for a while. We had changed batteries and worked with them for quite a while when I saw these posts. One we fixed with a "whack" and one we fixed by pointing the remote control toward the train in a forward position while we ran the engine along a surface that provided some resistance/friction. Both engines are working beautifully now! Thanks so much!

I can't believe it. I had the same issue. We just purchased a used train at a garage sale. The control and train seemed to both light up but didn't seem to make the train work.

I read this blog. "hit the train again a hard object" Way to go internet!!

Tried smacking the train on the concrete, didn't work. Then I smacked one side, then the other, the wheels started turning like a charm. Getting the train set up for my 3 year old grandsons visit. One happy grandma right now.

I replace the batteries in the remote control and the train will not go. Is there batteries in the train that might need to be replace, if so, where do I find them?

According to the Instruction Manual it requires 6 AAA batteries, you will need a Phillips screwdriver to access the panel where you must replace it.
The remote controller and the engine need batteries.
Engine
• Locate the battery compartment on the back of the Engine. • Loosen the screws in the battery compartment door with a Phillips screwdriver. Lower the battery compartment door and insert three "AAA" (LR03) alkaline batteries. • Close the battery compartment door and tighten the screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Do not over-tighten. • If this product begins to operate erratically, you may need to reset the electronics. Remove the batteries and replace them in the toy.

Yes! Thank you! Holding the remote in forward and running the train over and over worked! It took me a few tries, and finally I did it for about 30-40 seconds continuously, and it worked!!!! Thank you!!!

Geotrax is not working...new batteries in remote control...batteries go anywhere else?

I assume you have batteries in the engine. If the engine light comes on and the remote makes noise, the engine motor may be stuck. Try hitting the side of the engine against a hard surface, which may get the motor moving. I had this problem with 2 engines and fixed both of them.

I bought the set last year of holiday lionel trains g replaced batteries, have light on remote and noise from engine but no movement? any ideas

If all cars are not properly on the track, the engine does not have enough power to pull the cars. Try with engine and coal car only to zero in on cause.

WE are trying to get our lionel holiday train going. Is there an on/off switch on the train? the part that goes on the track is lit up but when we puch the remote control with train on the track nothing...

There is no on/off switch. Remote will give no indication of working. Try putting engine and coal car only and try. I have had this train set for two years and the remote tends to work whenever it wants.
