I believe that if you have a NetGear router, some of these have an 'automatic configuration' button, that will talk to NetGear wireless adapters and configure everything for you.

If you don't have a NetGear router you should be able to manually configure the wireless network if you have the details of the wireless key, etc.

Hope that this is of some help to you

What is wps pin

Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a standard for easy and secure wireless network set up and connections. Some of NETGEAR's products use the name Push 'n' Connect for WPS. To use WPS, your product must support WPS and be compatible with WPA security. WPS can automatically set up a random network name (SSID) and strong WPA wireless security for wireless routers, access points, computers, adapters, Wi-Fi phones, and other electronic devices.
WPS lets you use a push button or enter a personal identification number (PIN) instead of manually entering a network name (SSID) and password:
  • Push button. The WPS button is either a button on the product or a an option on the wizard or utility screen.

How do I find wps button on Netgear WNR834B

The Netgear WNR834B does not support WiFi Protected Setup (WPS).

You can follow the documentation in the manual to setup WPA-PSK (Pre-Shared Key) and use the key to add devices to your wireless network.

2. Select a radio button.
• Push and Connect (recommended). Either click the button or press the WPS
button on the rear panel of the Internet adapter.
• PIN Number. Select the radio button and a PIN displays.
The Internet adapter tries to join the wireless network for 2 minutes if you are using Push
'N' Connect, or 4 minutes if you are using a PIN.
3. Go to the router.
• If you are using Push 'N' Connect, press the router's WPS button.
• If you are using a PIN, log in to the router and type the PIN from your Internet adapter
in its WPS screen.
4. Go back to the computer that is connected to the Internet adapter, and make sure that you
are connected to the wireless network.
• When WPS is running, the WLAN LED blinks, alternating between green and amber.
• If the computer does not to connect with WPS, the WLAN LED is solid red for 5
seconds.
• If the computer does connect using WPS, the WLAN LED is solid green for 5 seconds
Then the WLAN LED returns to indicating a wireless signal.

Put all your settings back to the way they were and check the time and date on your computer (also on the router), WPA uses encryption, if the time difference between the two is too great it can break the encryption (seen this often).

The Button that you pressed on the router was for WPS level of security which means you are running WPA 2 Personal with AES security on the router, login into the routers interface and check under the Wireless settings, you will get the WPS password that you need to connect the laptop, you just need to search for the wireless network name on the laptop, if you know the Wireless SSID of the router it will be displayed on the laptop, select it and try to connect to it, it will ask you for the password, enter the WPS password and you will be connected Wirelessly.
