I have a Toshiba 55H70 TV. Lately it has been having issues with the screen. The picture will go out and theres different color lines, if we turn it off or unplug it and plug it back in it comes back. we messed a little with the three color knobs. and it would stay on and be fine then it would just shut off in a minute or so. Does anyone know what the problem may be? and what part we need to fix it? Thanks!!!

Sounds like possibly cold solder connections on the convergence IC's I believe there are 3 in your tv. They are easy to spot big black IC's that have STK392-xxx stamped on them.. If your lucky you can solder the connections and be back in business. Sometimes because of the bad connections left unrepaired it will cause the ic's to fail then they would need replacing. If you have soldering skills you might try yourself. Be careful and make sure its unplugged. If you arent skilled at soldering I wouldnt recommend even trying it.

My colors all of a sudden went out of wack

Is there an advanced convergence setup anywhere in the menu where the screen displays a grid? If so, you might want to get into that and move along the grid to each section that looks off. Adjust until the color falls behind the gridline, and move on to the next. It can be a time-consuming process, but should take care of your convergence issues.

Double imaging

The Toshiba 55H70 is a standard rear projection set. It does not have a "lamp", it has 3 picture tubes. When the colors suddenly do not line up on the screen, it means that one of your convergence output IC's has burned out and needs to be replaced. This is very common on those sets. If your set is using the STK392-110 IC's, it is probably a good idea to go ahead and replace both IC's with the newer upgraded STK392-150 IC's. The IC's should be replaced and the convergence circuits realigned by a qualified tech familiar with Toshiba projection sets.
