My device normally plays DVDs VCDS AND CDS. however now it plays only VCDS AND CDS. i;m suspecting my DVD driver is bad. what do i do

Um, no Blu-Ray.

It could be down to the Region of the Player or the Laser is Failing. As it doesn't play CDs then I suspect the the Laser is Failing (almost failed if it plays a cleaner but not CDs).

It looks like your machine already has a DVD drive. So all you would need is some software that will play DVD. Download and install VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/). VLC is a great multimedia player that plays most multimedia files as well as DVDs, Audio CDs and VCDs.

These days the players are very sensitive and do not accept DVD/CDs which are not compatible with their settings. There for it is not accepting VCDs which you want to play. Check he format of VCD, also check if it is not pirated. This is a common technical problem.

CD ROM drive will play only 700 mb CD disks(normal CDs)...and not play DVD disks...u need DVD ROM drive to play DVDs....there is a big difference among both in it's function.
a DVD drive "may" play both DVDs and CDs....
but
a CD drive will "only" play CDs

you might need to check to see the format of the dvd that you are trying to play ie dvdr vice dvd some devices will not play them if the format of the cd is wrong

Try re-installing your the driver for your dvd rom. Then try to put different dvds and check if it can read from your drive. If problem remains, I suspected it's your dvd rom is faulty
