I have a Kenmore Coldspot, side by side, Model # 106.44553401. This past Friday morning I got up at 3:30 AM to let the dog out, and upon entering the kitchen I heard a new noise. I walked over to the refrigerator to find the freezer door was open about an inch or less. What I was hearing was the freezer fan through that opening in the freezer door. In the morning, I checked everything in the freezer and all was frozed, and the fan was still on. Well, that fan had run non-stop until this Saturday evening, when it turned off. My concern is that maybe the fan just wore itself to death, so I put a thermometer in the freezer and I will be checking the temperature periodically to see if I am losing temperature. Why would a fan run for 36 hours straight, and what does this mean? Thanks - Don Leske

There is a sensor that turns the fan on when it detect a high degree of warm air flow or if the door is open is job is to inject cold air into the fridge compartment allowing the food to stay at cool temp as to why it ran for so long is probably collapsed sensor or faulty door switch / magnet as to it wearing its self out not to worry fans can run for months non stop with no harm the ,ain point now is ! is the fan still running it should come on when you open the door the fan is a crucial part of the fridge and must be working correctly

Water drips from the freezer into the fridge.Upon disassemble, there is ice buildup under the coils. kenmore coldspot model #71184101

The defrost timer or the defrost heater element has probably failed. Go to the link below and enter your exact model number; you should find a line-drawing illustration and parts list for your fridge that you can use to locate these items and normally also determine how to remove or install them:
