The mouse wheel on my wireless mouse 5000 is not working, won't scroll up or down. I have tried cleaning the wheel, but the rubber started to scrape off.

If the mouse is otherwise working, it may be dust. Mine is Microsoft 3000 and I just squirted compressed air into the gaps either side of the wheel. It had not been scrolling for weeks; now it's fine.

How do I make my scroll wheel work again? It just quit working. Now, I have to click the wheel and move the mouse up or down and it scrolls the page on its own. Nothing happens if I roll the wheel.

your mouse wheel clamp,,,,makes your scroll wheel work,so there might be a problem in it ...open the mouse and see if there is any problem in the clamps or the wheel motor....

Cleaning the Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000

I disassembled my Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000.

You need a set of precision screwdrivers to do this.

1. Peel up the teflon pad on the bottom of the mouse with a flat head screwdriver. Leave the other (the one under your fingertips) alone.
2. That will reveal a tiny silver screw. Remove that and then lift the gray upper section up from the back, then pull it free by moving it toward the back. The clips up at the front go in a forward direction, but they are not clipped in. You could just shake it free.
3. There are 4 tiny black screws. 2 at the front and 2 at the back. Remove them.
4. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry the retainer clip from the back of the mouse. It's just held on by a couple of little nubs. Don't break it. Be gentle with this part.
5. Now, the mouse can come apart. You need to pull the bottom of it free at the back and then slide the entire bottom section back. There is a little piece of circuit board that sticks out underneath the right-click area that will get hung up on the upper shell if you try to pull it straight down. This will take a little bit of prying since it's all clipped together, but it will come loose.

That's it. I didn't take any of the inner parts apart after that. I will say that my sticky scroll wheel was scraping against the upper shell. By loosening the two screws at the front, it relieved some pressure and let it run more smoothly. I didn't actually have to take it all apart after step 2 in order to fix that issue.

Hi, I believe you have to clean your mouse. that's no joke. You have to unscrew it and and clean out al the parts with a toothbrush and tooth-pic.. If that does'nt work. replace mouse with optic mouse.
Good luck.

The scroll button on my mouse is stuck, will not turn.

If the scroll button is sticky, take a q-tip and clean the wheel off on the outside and as much in the inside as possible. Dampen the q-tip with water.

If that doesnt' work, look for screws that hold the mouse together, unscrew the screws and take the mouse apart. At that point clean the scroll button and then put everything back together.

If the mouse still doesn't work properly then at that point, you'll need to get a new mouse.

Microsoft notebook mouse 5000 Wheel scroll stopped

Fixing the wheel/scroll malfunction was as simple as a reboot. I usually shut down in hibernate. Apparently the system needed a complete reboot to reset.

Thank you for following up.

Assign a keystroke to the mouse, in this instance I assigned 'p' for pan (as per the .pgp file short cuts etc) against the scroll wheel click.

Click the scroll wheel, 'p' comes up on the cad screen, right click to confirm then the pan icon appears, hold the left mouse button and drag at your leisure. Yet to find a fix for Inventor.

Not ideal, but better than nothing at presnt.
