I AM LOOKING FOR A SERVICE MANUAL FOR A dELL lATITUDE C 640 (laptop) I am changing the screens out and theres gotta be a better way to do it.

You have to be absolutely sure you are downloading the correct display drivers for your system. The dell installers are very picky.

It appears that the wrong graphics driver was installed.
You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still,
type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom
of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Tag
label is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS
pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the
page where the specific drivers for your model computer are located.
Also make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the
drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on this link to

there is a inverter in LCd that makes your lcd bright white shine. when it breaks down you see black screen. something happens on lcd you cant see clearly  you should go to service and need to be changed INVERTER.

It pops right out. Just look at the new battery and then figure out where it goes, usually there is a little switch / latch.

Windows Vista is not supported on Dell Latitude C540/C640. There are no drivers for the hardware of this model. Many older computers have that problem. You can try Microsoft to see if they even exist: http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx

i installed windows xp service pack 3 in dell c640 latitude laptop after which the multimedia audio controller driver is not installed.

if you can get hold of a second Dell Lappy (same model) which is broken (not broken screen) you can swap the broken screen for the good one. It means opening the laptop, but due to the smashed screen the warranty is invalid anyway. There is usually 1 or 2 cables coming from the screen 1 for signal and 1 for power. you can explore the broken lappy to see how the screen connects,
