It should be as simple as adding their name and number to the address book on the phone.
Make sure to list the number under the Mobile Phone line.
While in the address book, there is usually a line that says "New Entry" or "Add number" etc...(without the type of phone I cant get specific).
Another method is to into the text message itself and do an options click (again without the phone cant be specific) and there should be an option to add the number to the address book.
1. Delete unused names/numbers from the address book to free up memory. (Perhaps write down the ones you want to keep for later re-entry)
2. Once a critical threshold is reached the msg inbox indicator will blink on
3. Enter inbox and DELETE as many messages as you can before phone freezes up again
4. If phone freezes or you get the error message again, restart and keep deleting from the phone book until it allows you hassle-free msg inbox access as per normal (but don't forget to continue deleting thos messages).
It uses a shared memory. The caller ID and the Phone Book share the same memory. Clear out the caller ID and you will be able to store more names/ numbers in the phone book.
If you tell you phone company, they would most likely replace your phone for free if you tell them that its defective. T-mobile does it for sure. Hope I helped. =)

i can help... i have incurred this problem a couple of times and understand the frustration!
firstly, the reason why snd how this problem occurs is you have saved a number to your phonebook without a name and this causes the phone book to wig-out!
to fix the issue simply press "1#". This will allow you to view your phone book in its speed dial order. Scroll through this menu until you find the saved number without the name and DELETE it. This will immediately bring your phone book back to normal.
Good luck!
