I have one 1TB Freeagent hard drive and it was working just fine,until one day it just disappears from my pc and i cant get it to work.I plugged the power cord off,waited for a few seconds,plugged it back in,nothing.I did the same with usb cord,nothing.The orange light on my hard drive is blinking.Is there a way to fix this problem and get all my data back?please help!

First make sure usb cable connected to harddrive is working fine. try it in different usb ports. Press windows key +R key so you can see run then type in run "devmgmt.msc" then press ok so you can see device manager uninstall all usb drivers then it automatic install usb drivers. then check. Also you need to change registry for that type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter.Then restart computer then check. Try your harddrive in different computer if it is not recognized on another computer too then your harddrive has internal issue.

Right click "My Computer" >properties> hardware> device manager. Expand "disk drives". Right click your seagate drive and click uninstall. Reboot your computer; the drive should automatically be reinstalled.

Device can't be read?

you have lost the reference file; the drive will have to be recovered.
do not reformat the drive you will wipe it clean contact the drive manufacturer or, a commercial recovery company if the files are irreplaceable.

Windows cannot read my external hard drive anymore. It is tells me to unitialise it, and windows cannot even help because of an I/O device error.

Please check the External Hard-drive to some other computer
it it is working fine then check the services and turn on the plug and play
start - run - type services.msc
select the look for Plug and Play

option 01. try the unit on another windows pc. if its the same. i am afraid you might have an issue with the device.

option 2 . you could remover the **** from the enclosure & fix it directly to the pc so that you can retrive the data. however this will have an impact on your warranty

Hard Drive Dropped

Turn off your computer and then plug in the FreeAgent external drive. Then try turning your computer on, it should read.  If it doesn't I would go to the Seagate website for troubleshooting.
