Your warranty would not cover fixing your computer.
Depending how badly the virus infection is, the virus or viruses may be with a virus program without re-installing Windows.
If Windows needs to be re-installed then in most cases the hard disk will not have to be replaced, it only need the the hard disk wiped clean and then re-install Windows.

That is just moronic - you have to replace the hard disk only if it has physical damage,. To remove a virus infection all you have to do is to reinstall Windows and perform a full format in the process.
Never call them again, they are trying to stiff you.

You don't have to replace the hard drive if it still works. You can reformat it by doing a clean install of windows. It's relatively easy. Just go to your cmos, tell your computer to boot from cd, put your windows cd in your drive. Boot to the windows install cd and follow the instructions and answer the questions on the screen. Good luck and let me know if you need anything else.

PLEASE, I HAVE A DELL D610 LATITUTUDE LAPTOP AND I WAS WORKING WITH BEFORE A BLUE SCREEN APPEARED WITH SOME ERROR MESSAGE, AND NOW THE HARD DISK IS NO LONGER RECOGNIZING, WHEN IT DOES IT ODSN'T ALLOW ME TO...

Blue screen error may generally appear for three important reasons : 1.If you system is infected with some viruses and your hard drive has bad sectors in it.
2. If your memory card has gone bad or not properly pluged.
3. The OS has gone corupt due to virus attack.....

Resolution: 1. Go ahead and do a complete format on your hard drive and then install the OS, i.e., Win XP.
2.Try replacing your Memory Card in your system.
3. Change your hard drive or conatct Geek Squad @ 1-800-433-5778 for data recovery.

Upgraded hard drive, from 80gb to 250gb. I have had to reload my os twice. it appears that the bios is not recognizing my hd. a friend said that the inspiron 6000 does not do well with a hd bigger then...

I dont think we can use a hard disk of 160gb in an inspiron 6000. and make sure you bought a ATA hard drive and not a SATA drive. For the Western digital try to reinstall XP and install the device drivers before installing application s/w.

Geek Squad Backup Disks

Usually you just put the first backup disk in the CD/DVD drive and restart/reboot the computer.
If it does'nt boot up you have to go in to the bios settings and change the boot sequence so that it boots from the CD/DVD rom instead of the Hard Drive. When it's finished the restore task you can either leave the bios settings as they are, or change it back to boot from the Hard Drive. Sometimes the backup/restore disks will put the PC back to the same as the day you bought it, which means completely wiping the Hard Drive and reloading the Operating System (Windows) and any programs that where installed at the time the disks were made. If you can run the backup/recovery from within Windows there will be a program in the Programs list on the Start menu. That way you usually keep anything that you have added since you bought the PC and it just reinstalls the Operating System to restore it back to it's original condition.

Hope this helps.

Thank you sir

You need a place that can repair a hard drive. Geek Squad doesn't do that. You could Google something like:

Hard drive repair in Seattle.

Replacing Seattle for wherever you live.

Hope that helps you out.

Hi gdubb,

There could be many different causes for the symptoms you describe. It could be a hardware problem, corruption of system files or settings, a program (such as protection software) malfunctioning, a virus or spyware infection, or a deeper problem. I would recommend bringing the system into a local Geek Squad Precinct for a diagnostic check - it's likely to be related to a deep problem with the system.

While I'd normally try to offer specific advice, based on the information provided there isn't much I could recommend aside from bringing it into a Precinct for analysis. There are simply too many possibilities based on your description to provide detailed recommendations.
