Panasonic PT-51HX40B We have had this TV for about 4 years, it was manufactured in August of 2000. Today when I tried to turn it on, it is just a black screen and it makes this clicking sound. Any ideas on what it could be and how much it would be to fix it? Thank you.
My TV had the exact same problem as you said on year ago. I have the Panasonic's authorized service center to repair my TV costing about US$600.00. But now my TV has no picture again only with sound normal. I don't know if I should repair it again. Maybe I will throw the TV as garbage and buy differnent brand of TV, no Panasonic anymore. My TV had the exact same problem as you said on year ago. I have the exact same problem. Does anyone have a solution? Also before the screen went blank the tv had a convergence problem, which I believe is caused by a bad chip. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. I wondering if this tv should be trashed?

THAT IS GOING TO MOST LIKELY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE OPTICAL ENGINE AND PANASONIC HAD SEVERAL MODELS THAT HAD PROBLEMS WITH EEPROM CORRUPTION THERE WAS A RECALL TYPE OF EXTENDED WARRANTY I SUGGEST CALLING PANASONIC THEY WILL SEND SOMEONE OUT TO FIX IT MOST LIKELY FREE OF CHARGE :)
The buzzing noise that you were earing came from a bad ballast, and because of the bad ballast your lamp must have got out also, and that is were you are getting the burned smel from and also that is why you are no longer geteting any picture either.
So in this case you would have to replace the ballast board and the lamp on your tv set.
What he may be referring to is caps to stop the coolant from leaking on the curcuit board. One time I had to put a drip pan in my set to stop the overflow. Expect a $300-$450 bill.
reset button can apply when the tv turns on. first the tv has a short circuit and has to be repaired in order to be able to reset the tv to the original settings created in the program as brightness, color etc.
your tv now needs a visit to the workshop first, to turn on.
You can get the full service manual emailed to you at the following link, and when you buy the manual that entitles you to free online tech support that will help you track down the trouble and do the repair yourself. Heres the link. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
